Gameweek 25 Captaincy Analysis

With no break we are already looking towards gamewek 25 and as we always do, we will attempt to examine the main contenders for your captain’s armband. Gameweek 24 saw both Manchester teams scrape draws, Chelsea extend their lead and reports that Leicester City had sacked Nigel Pearson!

Before we looks at the midweek games let’s examine how our gameweek 24 picks fared:

1. Sergio Aguero – 5 points

2. Eden Hazard – 10 points

Gamble – Santi Carzola – 2 points

Differential – Daniel Sturridge – 1 point

Now moving swiftly on let’s look at this week’s options:

Note – Last minute change, with Olivier Giroud starting on the bench, we have put Alexis Sanchez as our number one pick.

1. Alexis Sanchxez (LEI)

Arsenal are at home to Leicester who are in a rotten run of form and sit bottom of the table. With all the speculation of Nigel Pearson being sacked, the Foxes preparation for the game on Tuesday will not be great. Arsenal will be desperate to get back on track after defeat in the North London Derby and the Gunners will see a home game against Leicester as a perfect opportunity to do so. Sanchez is just coming back from an injusy, and with him likely to play up top with Giroud starting on the bench, he is a nice option for the captain’s armband this week.

2. Angel Di Maria (BUR)

Although Angel Di Maria has been poor since his blistering start to his time in Manchester, the Argentine could return a big score against a Burnley side who are defensively vulnerable. United are strong at Old Trafford and really should do the business on Wednesday. Di Maria has been playing in his more natural position of late and will threaten the opposition goal and could score big.

3. Sergio Aguero (STK)

This week we have chosen a third captaincy pick, and a second Argentine of this captaincy analysis. Sergio Aguero hasn’t been scoring of late, but surely it is only a matter of time before he gets back to his usual self and is scoring goals for fun. With a game against Stoke City this week, Manchester City will look to close the gap on Chelsea, surely Aguero will find the back of the net this week?

Gamble – Harry Kane (LIV)

I know what your all thinking, ‘how can Kane be a gamble’ and the only reason we consider him a gamble pick is that Spurs face a tough away fixture against Liverpool. However the future England international has been fixture proof and may well add to his 22 goals this campaign on a cold Tuesday night at Anfield. Just a note of caution if you do own Kane, bear in mind Tottenham don’t have a game in gameweek 27.

Differential – Saido Mane (WHU)

Although Southampton have a difficult game at home to West Ham, the Senegalese winger has scored 4 goals in his last 4 starts for the Saints, so is certainly worth considering as an option this gameweek. With a price of 6.5 million and ownership of only 0.8% he is surely worth a look at.
