PRE-SEASON ANALYSIS – Queens Park Rangers

QPRThe 2013/2014 season saw QPR playing in the Championship. After the gruelling season they managed to finish in a playoff position (4th). Their first opposition was Wigan Athletic who they beat 2-1 after extra time in the second leg, after a goalless first leg. They went on to play Derby in the final, who were the favourites to progress, which is also how the game nearly panned out. QPR seemed to be on the back foot for the whole game, which was compounded when O’Neil was sent off. However they managed to keep it at 0-0 and a last minute counter attack was finished off by the hero Bobby Zamora.

Harry Redknapp and his team will be looking to strengthen their outfit to ensure their survival with their return to the Premier League.

STAR MAN – Charlie AUSTIN

Charlie Austin finished last season as QPR’s top goal scorer with 17 goals in 28 games. This season will obviously be a step up in class for the striker, however he will still be relied on as the main source of goals for the R’s. With a price of 6.0m he should be considered as that back up or cheap third striker, especially with a somewhat ‘easy’ start to the campaign.

HIDDEN GEM – Steven CAULKER

Steven Cualker has signed for the R’s this summer for £8 million, after suffering relegation with Cardiff. Whilst at Cardiff, the 22 year old managed 38 appearances, keeping 7 clean sheets and finding the back of the net 5 times. With QPR also signing ex England and Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand, the two could develop a solid relationship, possibly being key to their survival. At £5.0m Caulker is reasonably priced and should be a viable option for a place in the defence of many Fantasy football teams
