PRE-SEASON ANALYSIS – Southampton

SOUThe 2013/14 campaign was clearly one of the Saints’ finest, recording their best ever Premier League points tally. It wasn’t only this, but the young group of players that it was done with that made it so easy to watch. Many of their players were English and many also featured regularly in the England squad.

However, now many of Southampton’s players that made the last season such a success have left, such as; Shaw, Lambert, Lallana, Lovren, Chambers, etc. This leaves the new Southampton boss Ronald Koeman the challenge of keeping hold of what players he has left and also rebuilding a squad that can challenge the records again.

STAR MAN – Jay RODRIGUEZ

If Southampton can keep hold of their main striker, then he will play a crucial role in their challenge of the Premier league. Currently the club have offered him a new and improved 5 year deal, but it is not clear yet whether or not this has been accepted. He is also clearly being chased after by various teams, namely one being Liverpool.

Last season Rodriguez was unfortunately ruled out of the latter stages of the season and the World Cup. However, before this occurred he managed to tally up 15 goals and 3 assists over the course of the season.

HIDDEN GEM – Graziano PELLE

New signing Graziano Pelle has come from Feyenoord with a record of 23 goals in 28 games in the Dutch league. He was regarded as one of the best strikers in the league, with his formidable record.

So far, Graziano Pelle has played with Southampton whilst on their preseason tour. Notably, he scored two goals in the first half of his debut against Sporting Hasselt in a 0-6 win. With a price of £7.5, surely he is worth a punt when drafting you Fantasy Football starting XI’s.
