Gameweek 1 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

So finally, the FPL season has started once again! Everything I have missed from last season is back: goals, red cards, Gary Lineker and most importantly fantasy premier league. We’ve had a long time to wait and prepare ourselves for the opening fixtures, analysing pre season results and stalking the transfer market for any hidden gems amongst the league. But it all came down to Saturday and the chills went through everyone’s spine waiting for the first kick off to begin. Perhaps it’s what we all needed after a forever lasting summer, so let’s dive straight in to see who shone in the first week of fantasy football.

Goalkeeper

A great start for the Hammers keeper, Adrian and a clean sheet on the opening day against the dominant attacking force of Arsenal is certainly an accomplishment he can take into the rest of the season. Games from now will be a lot easier for a while so if he carries form he will more than likely find himself in this spot multiple times throughout this season. 6 saves earned him the appreciation he deserved and bonus points edged him above the competition.

Defenders

Manchester City’s captain, Vincent Kompany, definitely led by example on Monday evening after City cruised past West Brom after a header from the Belgian destroyed all hope and put the title contenders 3-0 up before the hour. More goals than last season already! Lets hope he continues bagging the goals as 6 points a piece is certainly worth a look at, especially when you can be confident about the amount of clean sheets City will get throughout the season!

The 18 year old,  Joseph Gomez started this week to the shock from many fans. The young defender saw himself battling for a place in a league 1 team last season, but Rodgers threw him straight in the deep end. With all eyes on him, he kept his composure and assisted in the only goal of the match, earning himself 3 bonus points and bagging himself an impressive 11 points for a debut game! For 4.5m he is certainly worth a look at.

Damien Delaney grabbed a goal in what was an impressive opening game for palace and earned himself a spot in this week’s dream team, but he will struggle to carry this form forward. With Liverpool and Arsenal in the next 3 weeks it doesn’t look good! But let’s celebrate it while it does. A solid display where the Palace players will be disappointed to have conceded 1 but he has equalled his tally for his last 2 seasons already!

A stale performance from Bournemouth gave Villa an easy 1-0 drifting past the new boys, as Jordan Amavi amongst others just did what was needed, and expected, to keep the strikers at bay for a full 90 minutes. He earned 1 bonus point giving him the advantage over his teammates and other defenders in a similar position. A positive start for the player, who could have a future in the Premier League after a performance like that!

Midfielders

Less drama this transfer window allowed Yaya Toure to concentrate on improving, and improving he did with 2 goals to start the season, banging them in from the off! Man of the match gave him the highest tally this week and he will certainly carry this form throughout the season, like he has done for many years now. His 2nd was a goal to remember with the roof of the net being impacted the most from a rocket of a shot!

A massive impact, including a goal and 2 assists gave Albrighton 15 points this week and earned Leicester a 4-2 win, starting the season off just as they needed it to. He has played in the Prem for multiple seasons but this is his best initial game and if he continues he will beat his tally almost immediately. A forgotten player perhaps making himself known as the season begins!

For the assists above, there needed to be a goal scorer, and here he is! Mahrez helped himself to 2 goals, seeing him leap into the team alongside his teammate and perhaps the dynamic duo have already began to gel at the perfect time. 3 bonus points allowed him to match his teammate with 15 points combining for 30, a massive amount at this stage of the season!

After a year in Ligue 1, Cabaye has quickly found his footing and reinstated his attacking force for Palace with a goal and 3 bonus points to kick off his campaign. No wonder fans were excited this with this transfer as the player looked exactly as he did before he left. Clinical, attacking and exciting, a player I would place in my team with no thoughts given!

Swansea’s new signing André Ayew had a positive debut, with a goal against the powerhouses of Chelsea and securing himself 3 bonus points which may increase the 3.8% of people who opted for him as a differential to see how he could perform in the Premier League. Priced at 7m he is outshone by perhaps better superstars but he is showing why he is considered a top signing from the start!

Forward

Everton surprisingly struggled against new boys Watford but a late goal from Kone secured 1 point and saved the day as in just 28 minutes, he made an instant impact. Assisting the first before a late equaliser meant a contribution to both goals and gave Everton a share of the spoils. Matching last season’s tally already will give him confidence to beat it, although that isn’t that hard now! A few tough fixtures coming up though so let’s see if he can convince Martinez he deserves a first team spot In the near future!

Special mention: Coutinho!

A few shockers in this week, and that will be the case throughout the season! But that’s the best thing about this league, anyone can become a hero. Who surprised you the most and who do you think will be in the top 11 next week? Tweet us @FPL_Updates
