Gameweek 3 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

The FPL season is now well underway, with managers starting to get their footing and recognise early mistakes, or where they’ve gone terribly wrong! Some slight, forced adjustments already made this season with the likes of Koscielny and Henderson picking up early injuries so many of us are looking to improve the depth in our teams. Monday night saw Arsenal face off against Liverpool, commonly a game with low scoring results and apart from that, there wasn’t many fixtures to shout about so lets see where the action went down by taking a dive into the Fantasy Premier League Dream Team for gameweek 3!

Review

Goalkeeper

The Newcastle shot stopper, Tim Krul, had a busy Saturday afternoon as United were hammering shot after shot towards him and with exceptional ability, he kept his cool and managed EIGHT saves keeping the game at a goalless draw. This gave Newcastle a share of the spoils and as he was no doubt voted man of the match, an additional 3 bonus points will only compliment his first clean sheet of the new season.

Defenders

A perfect start for the back 4 of City with 3 clean sheets in just as many games, allowing Kolarov to find himself in the dream team. There has been a city player in the dream team every week so far, and this trend looks likely to continue! The defender grabbed himself a goal and 3 bonus points for the second time this season already. How long can they last without conceding?

Pardew had faith in one of his more experienced defenders, and he repaid his trust by bagging himself both a goal and an assist as they cruised past a struggling Villa side, who have 1 win in 3. Certainly a day to remember for Dann as he picks up his first of the season, making it 5 seasons in a row where he has managed to contribute to the score sheet. Not a bad start at all for the powerful defender!

Watford found themselves with 2 draws in 2 coming into the weekend, and continued the trend with another goalless draw, this time against Southampton. A positive is that they’ve kept 2 clean sheets, leaving Nyom and their back line happy, but they’ll need to produce at the other end if they’ll want to stay in the Premier League for another season. A dominant performance left Pelle struggling to find chances, completely eliminating him out of the game for the full 90 minutes played.

The 2nd choice LB from last season, Sagna has been given a chance this season, and already has more clean sheets than last season as City maintain their perfect start. He’s played every minute this season so far, and with 3 bonus points, he edges over other candidates and finds himself in the dream team for the first time in a while!

Midfielders

A great debut gameweek for the Barcelona star, Pedro, who was valued at over 80m a few seasons ago! A goal and an assist saw Chelsea edge over a fighting West Brom team. Valued at 9.5m he will be popular as a replacement for the inconsistent Ozil, and if he carries this form on he’ll be in everyone’s team by the end of September!

This is the man who caused Chelsea the issues in that match, with 2 goals to his name (which could have been 3 after a penalty miss which would have given West Brom a share of the points). Morrison has matched his goals tally from last season already and will be excited to grow that tally as his clinical finishing against the champions will give him confidence in the next few gameweeks.

Palace’s new signing finally got his chance to show what he’s made of, and Sako did a great job of it! A man of the match performance and a goal to secure a 2-1 win saw him boost into the dream team and will be hyped to continue if Pardew gives him another chance in the squad as he looks to secure a spot in the starting 11 every week.

Mahrez is the Leicester star of the moment, featuring in the dream team every week so far and bagging 35 points in a very short space of time, with a goal this week taking his tally to 4 for the season. He’s been making headlines early on this season and his goal helped grind a 1-1 draw out against a struggling Tottenham side who have managed 2 points so far this season, their worst start in over 10 years. It is no shock that his popularity has increased massively!

Strikers

Bournemouth’s cherry on top, Wilson, was a player everyone was looking to after 20+ goals in the Championship and questions were asked if he could perform in the best league in the world. Although his goals were results of shocking defending from West Ham, the player still showed how lethal he can be in front of goal giving him a tally of 17 this week, making him the highest scorer in 1 week so far in the Fantasy Premier League!

Finally, a regular from last season! Costa found his return to scoring form by bagging a goal and an assist in Chelsea’s 3-2 win. It’ll be hard work trying to match his 20 goals of last season but he is 1 goal down as it stands which will give Chelsea fans confidence after some criticism of him not being the same striker as last season thanks to Chelsea’s rough start!

So that’s where the goals were! Callum Wilson stole most of them and 9% profited off last season’s Championship superstar (although how many of you had him in your starting XI? 😉 ) while Mahrez continued to shine against all odds, making him the highest scorer in the Premier League at this early stage! 130 points in total this week from the dream team, the same as week 1.
