Gameweek 33 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 33 was the first fantasy Premier League double gameweek of the season, which saw a lot of wildcards being played beforehand. The gameweek itself was somewhat underwhelming for those double gameweek teams, however next week we see another FPL double gameweek, which involves a lot more teams. Before we look at that, here is our gameweek 33 review:

FPL Gameweek 33 Dream Team

Goalkeeper

Wayne Hennessey – The Crystal Palace keeper has struggled for form of late and has taken a significant amount of criticism. However, this week he managed to silence some of those critics with a clean sheet against Norwich and Everton! Two clean sheets in the bag along with 9 saves and 4 bonus points meant Wayne picked up 18 points meaning he was by far the best goalkeeper in FPL this week.

Defenders

Joel Ward – Our second of 5 Crystal Palace players this week is Ward, who was also the joint-highest scoring player in the game this week. Just like Hennessey, Ward kept two clean sheets, but went one better and assisted the only goal in the game against Norwich. Many were talking about using the triple captain chip on Lukaku this week, but maybe we should have been looking at Joel Ward instead!

Toby Alderweireld – The Spurs defender has been crucial to their title fight, as he not only helps keep the back line strong by keeping those clean sheets but he also chips in with a goal or two every now and then. This week he did just that as he and Tottenham kept a clean sheet against Manchester United, but he also scored a goal in the 3-0 drubbing of the Red Devils resulting in an additional 3 bonus points.

Pape Souare – Our third Palace player is the Senegalese defender, Souare. He assisted in helping the Eagles keep two clean sheets, giving himself and fantasy Premier League managers a healthy 12 points!

Damien Delaney – Another two clean sheets for Delaney (see the trend?) means that he also finished the gameweek on 12 points and finds himself in the gameweek 33 dream team.

Alberto Moreno – Yes, someone stopped Crystal Palace from having 4 of the 5 defenders in the dream team as Scott Dann misses out, despite scoring the same as Moreno! The Spaniard put in quite a performance against Stoke as he set up a goal and scored one himself in the 1-4 victory.

Midfielders

Erik Lamela – Many were expecting the midfield to feature at least one Everton player, however the highest scoring midfielder was a Tottenham player in the form of Lamela. He managed a goal and an assist in the mad 6 minutes which saw the game turn on its head for United. That coupled with bonus points earned fantasy managers a tasty 13 points.

Jason Puncheon – Palace had not won a game in 2016 until last weekend, and they have this man to thank for getting them out of this rut. Puncheon scored the only goal of the game against Norwich, securing the win. He also featured in the 0-0 draw with Everton, but ended up earning himself a place in the dream team with a healthy double digit return.

Strikers

Andy Carroll – If it wasn’t for Crystal Palace’s double gameweek, this man would have been the star man of the week hands down. Carroll terrorised the Arsenal defenders and he was too much for them to cope with, as he found the back of the net on three occasions! A tidy hat-trick against Arsenal may have also given Roy Hodgson something to think about! Should he be on that plane?

Jamie Vardy – Leicester City are all but there as they need just 3 wins in their last 5 games. Vardy had gone quiet of late, and many shipped him out of their FPL teams, but when they needed him most he delivered the goods with two goals and a place in the dream team for gameweek 33.

Divock Origi – Our last player this week is the Liverpool forward who only played 45 minutes, but managed to find the back of the net on two occasions and take all 3 bonus points! Stoke completely fell apart in the second half and Divock took advantage, showing Klopp why he should be starting more often.
