Gameweek 34 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 34 was a huge FPL double gameweek, which saw many Fantasy Premier League managers go all out and try to score as many points as possible. Many had played the wildcard the week earlier which allowed them to play a team full of double gameweekers, but did it pay off? Here is our gameweek 34 review, looking at those players that scored the highest points in the week’s fixtures.

FPL Dreamteam

Goalkeeper

Heurelho Gomes – The Watford shot stopper ended up playing 2 fixtures in which there was a total of 5 penalties, of which 4 were at his end of the pitch. Gomes stepped up against West Brom and saved the two against him, but against West Ham he couldn’t stop Mark Noble from putting it past him twice. This coupled with some bonus points from the West Brom fixture earned the Brazilian a massive 21 points for FPL managers who had him in!

Defenders

Antonio Valencia – Manchester United had two home games this week against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, and many were hopeful of a double clean sheet for their fantasy football teams. However, the problem at the back for Manchester United was who will play. Valencia certainly did, and he scored those 0.6% of FPL managers that have him a massive 21 points, as he played the full 180 minutes in which United managed to keep both teams out.

Matteo Darmian – The United defender had a double gameweek this week, however as eluded too above, its never sure what back 4 will play and Darmian sat out of the first fixture against Aston Villa. Those managers that did pick him though were not left disappointed as he picked up a goal, an assist, a clean sheet and all three bonus points. Oh and a yellow card, but we can let that slide. A total of 17 points, which considering he only played one fixture is a brilliant score!

Jamaal Lascelles – Yes you are seeing this correct, a Newcastle defender in the dream team! Lascelles found the back of the net against Swansea and that coupled with a clean sheet, bonus points and playing time against Manchester City midweek, earned him a spot in this week’s team with 16 points!

Mamadou Sakho – Many FPL managers were left frustrated as Sakho, who had a double gameweek, only played 24 minutes of the first game, seeing him score just the single point. However he did not let those faithful FPL players down, as he found the back of the net and kept a clean sheet in Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Everton.

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez – With two home games many fancied Sanchez to deliver some big FPL points, and he didn’t disappoint. Scoring 1 point less than the gameweek’s top scorer, Sergio Aguero, he managed to bag a goal against Crystal Palace and then he picked up two against West Brom. That coupled with bonus points saw the Chilean finish the gameweek on a tidy 25 points.

Mark Noble – Many are saying this man should be in the England squad this summer, and with two goals this week, he didn’t do his chances any harm. Granted both were penalties, but the ball still needs to reach the back of the net and he certainly managed to do that. Noble has now scored 17 out of his last 20 penalties, so with a conversion rate of 85%, England may wish to take this with them to the Euros considering their track record when it comes to penalty shootouts!

Andros Townsend – Last week Newcastle looked doomed and many thought that they were already down, however with a win against Swansea and a spectacular draw against Manchester City, they are back in the scrap for safety. Currently they sit just 2 points from safety, but it looks like it will be a scrap between them, Norwich and Sunderland. If Townsend and Newcastle play like they did against Manchester City, they will stay up. Townsend managed a goal and an assist over the course of the gameweek, earning himself a place in the gameweek 34 dream team.

Dele Alli – Alli is the only player to feature in this week’s dream team who didn’t have a double ganeweek! Alli once again showed his class with a brace, although it should have been a hat-trick, against a woeful Stoke. 15 points returned for those that kept faith in the Spurs midfielder who didn’t have a double gameweek.

Strikers

Sergio Aguero – At the end of the gameweek, many of us were left thinking why we didn’t stick the armband on this man. With a double gameweek and the form he is in, hindsight is a beautiful thing! A total of 4 goals in the double gameweek, with  3 against Chelsea and 1 against Newcastle saw the Argentine score a handsome 25 points in the gameweek, collecting 6 out of 6 available bonus points too. Well done those who captained him!

Daniel Sturridge – Sturridge is coming back to full fitness and is looking determined to get into the England squad for the Euros. This week he did his claims no harm, as he scored 2 and created another in the two fixtures he played in against Bournemouth and Everton. That being said he didn’t play the full 90 minutes against Everton, as he came on as a sub, but he left his mark as he found the back of the net, which was his 50th goal for the club in a total of 87 appearances.
