Season Prospects – Chelsea

CHE

Compared to last season Chelsea have moved slowly in the transfer window. By this time last year Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas were already wrapped up. In my opinion, the reason for the lack of rumors surrounding the Blues is that there is less gaps to fill. Chelsea have signed 2 Brazilian youngsters thus far, although neither of which are likely feature in the first team this season. The capture of Falcao on loan will fill the void left by Drogba, but it isn’t so sure how much he will eat into Costa’s playing time. The London based club have been heavily linked with Begovic, who looks likely to sign to fill a spot on the bench. Other signings may include; a left-back that may replace Luis as he may go back to Atleti, a center back to slowly replace John Terry, a central midfield player to play back up with the likely departure of Mikel. Not bad for a side that comfortably walked to the league last season. It’s the departures that might case the Blues concern. Cech to rivals Arsenal along with potentially Luis, Mikel etc, etc.

STAR MAN: Eden Hazard (11.5m)

Difficult to choose with such a star studded side but for me it’s got to be multiple player of the year Eden Hazard. The little tricky Belgian will more than likely improve in his 4th Premier League season. The only thing that puts me off will be his naturally inflated price tag (11.5m). Other honorable mentions include Costa, as he’ll look to improve on his 1st injured plagued season, which still saw him score 20 league goals. Fabregas will also be one to watch, as the assist king narrowly missed out of the record number of assists last season due to a moment of madness when he got sent off at the Hawthorns for kicking the ball at Chris Brunt.

HIDDEN GEM: Oscar (8.5m)

This might come as a bit of surprise given all the names in the squad, but given his manager tipping him to have a similar season to Hazard’s last, Oscar gets my nod. The Brazilian has received more goals and assists in his first 3 seasons in comparison to former number 8, Frank Lampard. He’ll be looking to kick on and with Fabregas preferred by Mourinho in the deeper role Oscar will surely be among the goals and assists.
