Captaincy Analysis – FPL Gameweek 37 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

There’s only two gameweeks of the Premier League season remaining, but gameweek 37 is a huge one if you want to end strong and win your mini league. With lots of teams on double gameweeks, it’s really important to get your decision right this week – it could be the difference between beating your mates or not. Below, this captaincy analysis will try to highlight some of the favoured picks for that armband.

Before we look at this week’s captaincy picks, here’s how last week’s captaincy analysis did:

1. Alexis Sanchez – 14 points
2. Eden Hazard – 3 points
3. Harry Kane – 2 points
Differential – Gabriel Jesus – 5 points
Gamble – Manolo Gabbiadini – 4 points

Again it was a somewhat disappointing show from the lads, but let’s now look at this week’s picks:

1. Gabriel Jesus (LEI & WBA)

Brazilian forward Jesus saw his ownership rise by 5% heading into last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace. With Sergio Aguero still nursing a groin problem (25% chance of playing according to FPL site), Jesus will get the nod again up top, despite just an assist to show for City’s five goals last weekend. A pair of home games this week are kind, particularly as both Leicester and West Brom have nothing to play for. Pep Guardiola however needs to ensure that Champions League football is secured at the Etihad for another season, and that will mean hoping that Jesus can step up and add to his four goals so far.

2. Eden Hazard (WBA & WAT)

Another who let us down slightly last week was Hazard, who blanked in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough. It was a real disappointment for owners of the Belgian, particularly as you’d expect him to contribute something in an easy home victory. This week the Blues are on a double, and although ‘West Brom away’ looks pretty average on paper, it’s a huge game for them as they can seal the league title with a win. Even if they don’t beat the Baggies, Hazard and co will be back at the Bridge on Monday night facing a Watford side who have long lost interest in the current campaign. With the Hornets in holiday mode, I expect Hazard to put on a show for the Chelsea faithful, whether they’re champions yet or not.

3. Alexis Sanchez (STK & SUN)

It would take a brave man to captain an Arsenal player away to Stoke, but the possibility of that fixture coupled with a Sunderland visit to the Emirates Stadium just looks a bit too enticing. Things have dried up a little for Sanchez lately, with just two goals in eight Premier League games since he was reinstated to the starting line-up after being dropped at Liverpool. Much like Watford, Stoke appear to have all but gone on holiday for this season, so even the Gunners may not fear the Bet365 Stadium too much this year. These are nice games for the Chilean, who will want to go into the FA Cup final in fine fettle.

Differential – Romelu Lukaku (WAT)

There are two issues with Lukaku this week. The first is that he plays only once, and the second, in my opinion, is that his game comes on Friday night before the rest of the weekend’s action. Choosing Lukaku as captain this week is therefore a bit of a risk, but a good return before many others in your mini league have had their own skippers feature might make them sweat. The Everton man is in the midst of his driest spell since December, failing to score in any of Everton’s last three games. Considering Friday’s game could well be his last at Goodison Park as a Toffee, he’ll want to sign off in considerable style.

Gamble – Harry Kane (MUN & LEI)

Captaining Kane this week may well be a risk, even if he’s been brilliant for you all season long so far. By the time Spurs are in action on Sunday, Chelsea may well already be champions and Mauricio Pochettino’s team might lose a bit of interest. However, what is in Tottenham’s favour is that the clash with Manchester United is the last ever game at White Hart Lane, one they desperately will not want to lose. Personally I just can’t see Kane not signing off from the Lane with a goal. Following that, Spurs travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester, and although I don’t think Kane will be rested, he might well look a little uninterested if there is nothing to play for.
