FPL Bargain Options – Forwards – Fantasy Football Tips

Welcome to the pre-season series “FPL Bargain Options”, the four-piece series where we find the bargains for all positions.

We had this FPL Bargain Options series last season and it was a success to say the least with picks such as; Schmeichel and Alderweireld suggested. It’s worth bragging that in the strikers article the four players suggested were; Wilson, Defoe, Deeney and JAMIE VARDY! Nailed it!

Goals, assists, bonus points, goals and more goals – that’s all we want from our strikers. We get 3 slots for forwards and it’s next to impossible to fill all three with well known superstars, that’s why this article is here right now as our mission is to find the next Jamie Vardy, in these three FPL Bargain Options right here:

Andre Gray (Burnley 6.5m)

If Burnley are going to stay up, Andre Gray needs to be scoring goals and that’s perfect for them as Andre Gray is bloody good at scoring goals. The 25 year old scored 23 goals in the Championship last season and I feel he has the ability to carry his goal scoring form into the Premier League, just like we saw players such as Rickie Lambert, Callum Wilson and Troy Deeney do in their first season in the league. Gray has scored 8 goals in 5 games in pre-season which just shows he’s kept his form from last season and is ready to carry it on into the new season.

In fantasy football we as managers tend to have two expensive strikers and one cheaper one from a weaker team that will score goals, Andre Gray fits that role perfectly. He will only cost you 6.5m and I wouldn’t put it past him hitting double figures this season. It’s not a risk, he’s a proven goal scorer and is on fire!

Jordan Rhodes (Middlesbrough, 6.0m)

With the signing of Negredo it’s tough to tell how much Jordan Rhodes will play. You would think a player that’s scored 84 goals in the last 5 Championship seasons deserves a crack at the Premier League. Jordan Rhodes is a pure, natural born goal scorer. He’s only 26 and has 185 professional career goals under his belt, he’s more than capable of delivering in the Premier League. Rhodes has scored 5 goals in pre-season so far and he’s doing everything he can to show Karanka he deserves a starting role.

IF (if) Rhodes is a starter, 6.0m is a pure bargain. Middlesbrough have been given a very nice start to the season with; Stoke (H), Sunderland (A), West Brom (A) and Crystal Palace (H) to play in their opening fixtures. If Rhodes plays, he scores and it’s as simple as that. He’s in my team, is he in yours?

Shane Long (Southampton, 6.5m)

I feel like Shane Long should be much more than 6.5m. The forward scored his personal best of 10 league goals last season and he seems to be getting better and better. The good thing about Shane Long is that he doesn’t just score, he creates. In his last five Premier League seasons he’s scored 38 goals and assisted 19, that’s pretty good for a cheap striker, isn’t it?!

Shane Long tends to score most of his goals at St Marys and this works out perfectly for us considering that Southampton’s first four home fixtures are; Watford, Sunderland, Swansea and Burnley. It’s a lovely little chance to get some home form going and a lovely little chance to get Shane Long firing for us. He’s reliable and a bargain, get him in.
