Sunderland – Fantasy Football Potential – FPL Tips

Over the last few seasons, Sunderland have been teetering with relegation and last season was their worst scare yet. With their lord and saviour, Sam Allardyce, abandoning them for the England job, surviving this season is looking like a hard ask. Many people have written them off even, even before David Moyes got the job.

It is worth noting though that Moyes took over the Everton job on 15th of March, he picked up 13 points by the end of the season. Take those points away and they would have been relegated. So in effect Moyes saved Everton’s Premier League status. But will he be able to do the same with Sunderland?

STAR MAN – Jermain Defoe (7.0m)

Who else is going to be Sunderland’s star man? Jermain scored three times the amount than the second top scorer for Sunderland did last season. He also had the most shots and most shots on target, howing he does have an eye for goal. He is a player known for his finishing quality and his power of being in the right place at the right time. When it comes to goals he is your man!

HIDDEN GEM – Jeremain Lens (6.0m)

Lens had a very hit and miss first season in the Premier League. He missed a lot of the season for a lot of confusing reasons, including a silly red card versus West Ham. But when he was on the pitch, a lot of the time he made a big difference. If any season is a season for him to show everyone his qualities, it’s this season. Rumours are flying around of his departure, so he will need a strong start to the season the quash them.

BARGAIN OPTION – Duncan Watmore (5.0m)

It’s hard to find a good bargain option within Sunderland’s squad this season. But young Duncan Watmore stands out as a clear favourite. He made his breakthrough last season scoring 3 goals and bagging one assist. Considering last season was his first taste of Premier League football, that record was not bad at all. Whether he will play yet is unknown, but be sure he will make an impact when coming off the bench.
