Swansea – Fantasy Football Potential – FPL Tips

Fantasy Premier League is up and running and the team from the South West of Wales, Swansea City, has some key individuals, who could be vital for FPL players for the upcoming season. The Italian, Francesco Guidolin did a good job when appointed in January 2016 as he turned a bad first half of the season into a decent 12th place finish, and looks to follow that on if he is able to keep some of his key players. On paper, Swansea will need to pick up the full six points in their first two matches against newly promoted clubs Burnley and Hull, hence the next six matches will be very difficult as they go up against the current league champions Leicester, followed by Chelsea, Southampton, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, ouch!

Furthermore things do not improve for the Swans, because they have been pretty much inactive this summer transfer window, as they only made five transfers of which two were on a free. Swansea secured the signing of, Dutchman, Leroy Fer from QPR, who spent the whole of the 2015/16 season on loan at Swansea and appeared 11 times. Looking to bolster their attack, they signed fellow Dutchmen, Mike van der Hoorn from Ajax. However both don’t look to be the best options for your FPL teams.

STAR MAN – Andre Ayew (7.5m)

Andre Ayew turned out to be a key player for a lot of FPL players last season. Despite his mid-season injury, the Ghanaian international, picked up a total of 171 points, making him the highest points earned player within the team. Ayew scored 12 goals and assisted twice, turning out to be a very good performance for a player that was new to the Premier League last season. If he stays injury free all season it could only mean one thing, he will only get better after already gaining a seasons experience in the English game. Following on, not only he is the Swans star man, but he is also a bargain for a midfielder priced at 7.5m, as this year’s FPL prices have risen.

HIDDEN GEM – Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.5m)

The Icelandic international ended the season with a total of 158pts, finishing second behind, the star man, Ayew. Sigurdsson looks to follow up his great performances at the Euro’s with Iceland, where they were defeated by finalists and hosts France in the quarter-finals. Sigurdsson scored 11 times and assisted three times, which is one of the hidden gems in midfield. Sigurdsson is known to be one of the best free kick takers within the league as well as having a great strike on goal from distance making him a huge threat against any goalkeeper.

BARGAIN OPTION – Ashley Williams (5.0m)

Just like Sigurdsson, the Welsh captain comes back from the Euros with his head up after a great performance with his team, losing to the eventual winners Portugal in the semi-final 2-0. Williams was also a key defender for many in last season’s FPL, as he finished joint third in the Swansea team alongside Lukasz Fabianski, with 123 points. Williams is surely to be a defensive bargain option compared to the price rise of defenders such as Hector Bellerin and Toby Alderweireld.
