Davy Klaassen – Fantasy Premier League Potential

On 15 June 2017, 24- year old Davy Klaassen signed a 5- year deal with the Toffees worth £23.6 million after playing for the Dutch club, AFC Ajax for 6 years. Being Ronald Koeman’s second big signing of the summer after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen’s great attacking potential can majorly strengthen the Toffees’ midfield.

The Netherlands international has scored 14 goals and pocketed 9 assists in his 2016- 17 campaign and Davy Klaassen has been quoted saying:

“I spoke a few weeks ago with Ronald Koeman about Everton. I wanted to come here and check if this was the right club for me and since I came here I feel so happy. It’s a great club.”

Fantasy Football Potential

The Toffees’ midfield was a major concern in terms of goals and assists last season, Koeman had to enter the transfer market and bid on a reliable midfielder. With Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas the two major midfield men for Everton last season, Davy Klaassen can add a cutting edge to the side with his ability to make late runs into the box and creating chances with through balls and key passes.

With Romelu Lukaku scoring 25 goals last season and no other player netting more than 6, the Toffees were in search of attacking promise and Klaassen possesses the potential. Klaassen could also be Everton’s first-choice penalty taker should Lukaku leave this summer. The Dutchman has netted 5 of his 7 shots from the spot in all competitions last season. Klaassen generally plays as an attack minded midfielder, but can also play as the No 10 role with his stamina and intelligence being put to use.

Klaassen, was very impressive in Holland and could possibly be priced around 7.0m or 7.5m, fitting into quite a few fantasy sides as a 4th midfielder. With an easy start to the season against the Potters, the Toffees have testing fixtures against four of last season’s top six sides in the first five gameweeks.

However, with finishing and through balls as his key strengths, Klaassen can also possibly attract some bonus points to benefit his managers. Despite a bad run of fixtures at the start of the season, the Dutchman can be one of the differentials from the Toffees attack.

With the transfer window still being open, Everton could provide us with a few more stronger options before the new campaign kicks off. Gylfi Siggurdson from Swansea, being one on Koeman’s radar can possibly bring out Klaassen’s full potential with his short passes and great counter- attacking skills. With Klaassen being confident of scoring goals in the Premier League, it will be a sight to watch the Dutchman proving his worth in English football.
