Fantasy Football Potential – Chris Wood

Burnley signed striker Chris Wood from Championship side Leeds United for a club record fee believed to be around £15 million. The move comes after the Clarets sold striker Andre Gray to Premier League rivals Watford for around around the same price.

Chris Wood was prolific for Leeds last season, scoring 27 goals for them which earned him the golden boot. The Kiwi also has international experience with New Zealand and he has notched a very impressive 20 goals in 52 appearances. To add to that, he is already off the mark for Burnley after scoring against Spurs at the new Wembley on his debut!

Here’s what Wood had to say about his move:

“The manager has given me a lot of confidence and backed me to bring me here, which is what you want. I’ve still got a lot of good years ahead of me. I’ve got lots of ambitions to achieve in the future. I’ve got goals and dreams that I want to achieve and it starts here.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Chris Wood has been priced on FPL at 6.5m, making him the most expensive player at Burnley in FPL. The fact that he is 0.5m dearer than fellow forward Sam Vokes may put off many FPL managers who will opt for the Welshman instead.

5 of Chris Wood’s 27 league goals last season came from the penalty spot, so the Kiwi may be handed penalty duty, which would be great for his owners. His ownership is very low as he has only recently been added to FPL, which means he could become a decent differential option.

Burnley’s next five fixtures are as follows: Crystal Palace (H), Liverpool (A), Huddersfield (H), Everton (A) and West Ham (H). These fixtures are varied to say the least. Their home games look promising but their away matches is what may put off FPL managers to select any Burnley players in the coming weeks, unless they are used in rotation.17
