Fantasy Football Potential – Jese Rodriguez

Stoke City have signed Spanish winger Jese Rodriguez from PSG on a season long loan. Jese joins the Potters after spending a season with Spanish side UD Las Palmas where he scored 3 goals in 16 La Liga appearances.

Amazingly, Jese Rodriguez is the 5th Champions League winner to be at Stoke City alongside the likes of Bojan and Shaqiri, as he won the tournament with Real Madrid in 2014. The Spanish forward is still just 24 years old and he may be what Mark Hughes needs to fill the hole tat was left by recently departed winger, Marko Arnautovic.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes said:

“Jesé was a man in demand when PSG made it clear they would allow him to leave on loan and we’re delighted he has chosen to join us. He hasn’t had the happiest of periods in his career in Paris but he’s still only a young man and is hungry to make a big impression in the Premier League.”

Fantasy Football Potential

I believe that Jese will more than likely be in direct competition with Eric Choupo-Moting for the left attacking midfielder role, which Arnautovic had previously filled. If Jese can adapt quickly to the Premier League he could be a great bargain option as a fourth midfielder.

I doubt Mark Hughes would spend a significant amount of his wage bill on a player who is going to warm the bench, so I believe his quality will outshine that of Choupo-Moting and become a vital player in Stoke’s upcoming campaign.

Stoke’s next five fixtures are as follows: Arsenal (H), West Brom (A), Man United (H), Newcastle (A) and Chelsea (H). These difficult matches may prove if Jese has what it takes to play in the Premier League.
