Fantasy Football Potential – Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester have bolstered their attacking force with the marquee signing of Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho for a fee reported to be around £25 million. The Nigerian striker fell out of favour at City, mainly due to the arrival of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, who has more than cemented his place in the first team.

Last season Kelechi Iheanacho found it difficult to get decent game time and played the equivalent of just under 6 full matches. Despite this Iheanacho scored 4 and set up 3 for his teammates. Also the season beforehand, he scored 8 goals and assisted 2 in the equivalent of 8 and a half full matches.

Leicester City manager Shakespeare said:

“It’s a great signing for Leicester. Kelechi is an enormously talented player that has shown a huge amount of promise at every level in which he’s played. We’ve tracked his progress for some time, so we know how much quality he’ll bring to the squad. He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s ready for the next stage of his development and I’m delighted that will be with Leicester City.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Since his move to Leicester, Iheanacho’s ownership has risen and continues to rise. He is priced at 7.0m, which for a prolific Premier League goal scorer at a top half side, could turn out to be a bargain.

If he starts off well with the Foxes, he would be a great option for the 3rd striker spot in your FPL squad. Iheanacho holds the record for the best goals per minute record in the Premier League which speaks for itself.

Iheanacho should have the substantial game time at Leicester this season. I believe he will be paired up with Jamie Vardy, and those two could link up very well and push Leicester up to a top 8 place. His current 2.7% ownership also makes him tempting as a good differential.

Leicester’s opening fixtures are as followed: Arsenal (A), Brighton (H), Manchester United (A), Chelsea (H) and Huddersfield (A). These fixtures are not too encouraging, but Iheanacho does like a goal at Old Trafford and they are playing two recently promoted sides amongst the difficult fixtures.
