Fantasy Football Potential – Kevin Wimmer

Stoke City have secured the services of central defender Kevin Wimmer from Tottenham for a fee in the region of £18 million. The Austrian defender is the defender that Mark Hughes has signed this summer, joining Martins Indi and Kurt Zouma.

Kevin Wimmer found himself on the bench for the vast majority of last season due to the Belgian pair of Vertonghen and Alderweireld having a fantastic season together. In his two seasons at White Hart Lane he played just 31 times in all competitions.

Wimmer said;

“I am just so happy to be at Stoke now because I really wanted to come here, to a Club with such big tradition, so I feel really good and am very excited about meeting up with everybody and getting ready for the matches ahead.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Wimmer was originally priced at 4.5m whilst at Tottenham, but due to his lack of game time he has stooped down 0.1m meaning he could be a great option if he gets regular game time at the Potters. However this may be hard to come by due to the amount of central defenders Hughes has at his disposal.

The Austrian also isn’t renowned for goal scoring either. He failed to score in all of his appearances with Spurs and his previous club Cologne. His ownership is obviously low as he has just joined Stoke, so if he does get a good spell of games under his belt, he could become a decent differential.

Stoke’s next five fixtures are as follows: Manchester United (H), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (H), Southampton (H) and Manchester City (A). These matches seem very tough for Stoke, but they did get three points against Arsenal so you never know what they could pull out the bag in these games.
