Fantasy Football Potential – Serge Aurier

Tottenham Hotspur have signed defender Serge Aurier from French giants PSG for a fee believed to be around £23 million. The right back seems to be the direct replacement for Kyle Walker who left Spurs earlier in the window.

The signing of Serge Aurier will more than likely mean Trippier will be left on the bench due to the quality that Aurier brings to Spurs’ starting eleven. The Ivory Coast international was linked with Manchester United earlier on in the transfer window, but Spurs are the team who got his signature eventually.

Serge said:

“This is a huge and exciting opportunity at a massive football club and I am determined to prove myself as a professional both on and off the pitch. This is a fresh start for me and I will do everything to make the Spurs fanbase, which is huge and diverse, proud of me.”

Fantasy Football Potential

As mentioned above, Aurier will almost certainly replace Kieran Trippier in Pochettino’s starting eleven which will damage many Trippier owners. Aurier is priced higher than his fellow right back at 6.0m which tends to suggest that the people at FPL also believe that the Ivorian will get the nod.

However, left back Ben Davies is slightly cheaper than the recent signing and has also had a decent start to the season with Spurs. In addition to this, Aurier has a dodgy disciplinary record to say the least, which could also be a turn off for many FPL managers.

Tottenham’s next five fixtures are as follows: Everton (A), Swansea (H), West Ham (A), Huddersfield (A) and Bournemouth (H). These are a very favourable set of fixtures which may be key for Spurs and Aurier to perform well and climb up the table.
