FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 20 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Imagine for one moment that there was a winter break introduced in the Premier League! Scary thought isn’t it. With the GW’s coming thick and fast it’s certainly the time for more experienced and committed FPL players. So with GW20 starting on Boxing Day let’s have a run through of how we did in GW19.

Rob Elliot was the chosen man between the sticks and it was actually his first start for us since GW13. Although he conceded twice against West Ham his penalty save scored him 9pts, his highest score of the season.

Elliot’s 9pts turned out to be three times the combined total of our whole back 3. 1pt apiece for Phil Jones, Andy Robertson and Arthur Masuaku was not in keeping with the rest of our team.

Although Richarlison and Wilf Zaha also blanked they were covered by Mo Salah and Raheem Sterling doing what they seem to always do. Salah scored his 15th league goal of the season in the 3-3 thriller with Arsenal whilst captain Sterling returned us 26pts. Unsurprisngly the 2 of them lead the way in FPL scoring this season.

Up top we had a great week with all 3 strikers scoring. Roberto Firmino picked up a goal and an assist for the second week in a row, Jamie Vardy scored his first in 5 and Harry Kane stole the show with a hat-trick away at Burnley. Quite bafflingly he actually dropped in price prior to the game. I understand that he’s expensive but there are so few players capable of this kind of performance. It was his 6th double figure return of the season and took his overall total to 114pts. Comfortably leading the scoring for all strikers.

So we finished GW19 with a really pleasing 87pts. Our highest score of the season was also enough to move us up to our highest overall position as we now sit at 174k. We started the season poorly but with 11 weeks of green arrows in the last 14 weeks we are hopefully taking some good form into the new year.

Rotation is always expected over the festive period but with our team looking ok and in pretty good form I’m going to save the transfer to give us 2 free for GW21.

Both keepers have a bit of a shitter here so it’s a case of picking which our Mancunian poison. I’ve decided I’d rather Nick Pope against United than Rob Elliot against City. Not that I’d expect more than 2pts from either.

At the back is where we have a slight concern with a couple players seemingly not guaranteed of starts. Sead Kolasinac and Kiko Femenia have been benched and injured for the last few weeks so we leave them on our bench. We therefore start with Phil Jones, Andy Robertson and Arthur Masuaku again. Nice fixtures for all 3 I think it’s safe to say we will see an improvement on their points totals from last GW.

Our midfield is once again unchanged. We did regret the benching of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting last time out but it’s not enough to get him in the XI this week. Wilf Zaha, Richarlison and Mo Salah all have home fixtures against Arsenal, Leicester and Swansea respectively whilst Raheem Sterling travels to Newcastle to look to maintain his fantastic form. Of the four I’ll be keeping a very watchful eye on Richarlison. With just one attacking return in his last 6 his drop in form has coincided with Watford’s poor run. I fully expect him to be rested at some point over the next couple of GW’s so he is very close to being the next transfer out for the FPL Updates XI.

Up top is the same 3 again. Harry Kane faces Southampton at Wembley before his GW21 blank, Jamie Vardy is up against out of form Watford and Roberto Firmino has a nice game at home to Swansea. They may not repeat their 36pt return of GW19 but there’s certainly points to be had here.

So there we go. Our GW20 line up is locked and loaded and I’m happy with how we look. We can now sit and enjoy our Christmas dinner safe in the knowledge we have our team ready and we sit in our highest position of the season.

As always it’s time for the captain poll. We have multiple strong options this week so please join the vote below and help us keep us this good run.

Thanks to you for reading and I hope you all have a great Christmas!
