FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 22 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Right, the gap between GW21 and GW22 is tighter than my January budget after overspending at Christmas so we’ll keep this short and sweet! It all started with a sexy Saturday score of 69pts (yes I’m 33 and still laugh at that score) but it was followed by a really wanky Sunday where our 3 players could only combine for 5pts. Either way we are seeing some really good looking green arrows. We started GW21 just outside the top 150k but I’m confident that we will be well within the top 100k by the time the points are fully updated.

The backline was a real mixed bag as Nick Pope scored 6pts whilst Phil Jones and FPL Updates XI debutant Christopher Schindler both hit an impressive 9pts. Andrew Robertson and Sead Kolasinac could only muster 2 between them.

In the midfield you guys got it spot on again with the captain choice as you voted for Mo Salah who’s 14pts doubled set us on our way to a great week. Raheem Sterling, Richarlison and Wilf Zaha added a further 9pts.

Up top we ran with a front 2 as Harry Kane was on the blank and we had Jamie Vardy to thank as he scored against Liverpool and notched 9pts, his joint second highest score of the season. Roberto Firmino blanked for the first time in 4 GW’s so we will let him off of his 2pt performance.

So 74pts in the final GW of 2017 was a great way to end the year. Considering we were as low as 1.1m as recently as GW11 I’m over the moon with how the last 10 GW’s have gone. We jump straight into a January 1st fixture list and a week that sees Spurs and West Ham on a DGW. So let’s have a look at our transfers for this week.

Richarlison (OUT) – Son (IN)
Kolasinac (OUT) – Ogbonna (IN)

We’ve stocked up on double gameweekers as Hyeung Min Son and Angelo Ogbonna come in. With Sead Kolasinac coming off injured and facing Chelsea next I happily had him out whilst I’m confident Richarlison will be rested soon.

With Rob Elliot still injured we are going with Nick Pope again. Against the free scoring Liverpool he is not getting a cleanie in any way shape or form.

At the back we start with 2 West Ham defenders (Ogbonna & Masuaku)! Imagine someone had told me back in September that I’d be doing that. People talk about starting afresh and doing exciting and fun things for the new year. This is not one of those things, A DGW makes you do weird things. I’m also 3 beers deep at the time of writing on New Years Eve so that’s definitely my excuse when they concede 4 in both games. They are joined by points magnet Phil Jones.

Our midfield welcomes in Heung-Min Son who I’m confident will start both games. His minutes do worry me mid to long term so I’m far from sure he will stick here past the middle of January but I like him for the double. Raheem Sterling was benched against Palace but with injuries to Jesus and De Bruyne I’m sure he returns to the starting line up. Mo Salah I’m not so sure. A knock against Liverpool along with Klopp’s penchant for resting big names over the busy period means I could see him benched. Not that we are even contemplating selling him. Wilf Zaha completes the mid away to Southampton.

Up top Harry Kane is back. Well if he’s recovered from the sniffles that is. Illness is causing some doubt to his status for both games which doesn’t stop us thinking about him being a good captain choice but does put the breaks on the plan to triple captain him. We will save the chip for another double later in the season. So the captain vote will apply as usual below. Roberto Firmino starts at Burnley and Jamie Vardy at home to Huddersfield.

So with the deadline at 11.30 there’s no time to mess about. Hopefully you’ve set your teams already or at least get the chance to do so in a hungover daze.

Right, I’m now about to go drink like Sam Allardyce and dance like Alan Pardew. Happy New year to you all and good luck for GW22!
