FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 28 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Surely it’s not just me that feels like the last GW seems ages ago. Saying that, considering we don’t own either Sergio Aguero or Eden Hazard it’s probably best that we have forgotten too much about it. In all fairness an 80pt week wasn’t horrific and only saw us drop 3k places.

It was a bit of a weird week where we saw red arrows even though we scored 20pts over the weekly average, It was a little more tolerable given that we are still inside the top 50k and have all our chips still available. Something we will address within this article. Firstly though let’s have a run through our 80pt GW27.

As expected Nick Pope conceded against a resurgent Swansea team. More worrying is that it’s 6 straight games without a clean sheet for Burnley. Can’t help but feel the foot is off the gas knowing that they are already safe from the drop.

At the back Marcos Alonso missed out again so we started with a back 3 of Andrew Roberson, Phil Jones and Christopher Schindler. Just the one clean sheet between them.

Our midfield was once again saved by Mo Salah. It’s almost getting boring talking about how superb he’s been. Another correct captain choice voted for by you readers so I’m more than appreciative for that. He wasn’t the only one to pick up attacking returns. Raheem Sterling scored in the 5-1 mauling of Leicester whilst Xherdan Shaqiri made it 2 in 2 as he scored against Brighton. The first time he’s scored in back to back games this season. His 110pts so far this season is the most he’s scored in his 3 seasons in the Prem. Heung Min Son was the only midfielder to blank. His 4th consecutive blank. With Lamela fit again and Lucas Moura vying for minutes it might be time to offload the South Korean.

Up top we had Harry Kane scoring in the North London Derby, obviously, Roberto Firmino pick up a goal and assist against Southampton and Callum Wilson blank.

So with GW28 on the horizon our attentions now start to focus a little more on the upcoming blanks and doubles. We consciously banked a transfer last week so all transfers up until GW31 will be used to set up a team as best as possible for the next few weeks and the GW31 blank. With all chips intact the plan for us is as follows:

GW31: No chips. Free transfers to field 9/10
GW32/33: Wildcard
GW34: Bench Boost
GW35: Free Hit
GW37: Triple Captain

Our current squad has 6 players with GW31 fixtures. So I will look to use 3/4 of our 5 free transfers before then to make it 9/10 for that week. If we can navigate that week successfully then I am more than confident we will see green arrows for the rest of the way. On the note of transfers here’s what I have decided upon this week

Son (OUT) – Richarlison (IN)
Jones (OUT) – Daniels (IN)

2 free transfers used and both with a GW31 fixture. We now have 8 with a game that week and £3.2m in the bank allowing us to account for any variable change in the next few weeks. I feel Son is expendable now for the reasons written above and Jones having a couple very tough games in the next 3. He’s also not necessarily even fit enough to play this week. And talking of this week let’s have a run through our line up for this week.

Nick Pope obviously starts. Home against Southampton there’s hope of a cleanie. Something they achieved at St Mary’s earlier in the season.

Our back 3 welcomes back Marcos Alonso. After an incredible run of 69pts in 8 games he has now scored just 1pt in 3 since. 2 of those games he didn’t feature but with £7m+ invested in a defender it hurts nonetheless. He comes straight back in for a big game away at United. Hopefully the boring Mourinho turns up and turns it into a defensive slog. Charlie Daniels is in and starts. Home to Newcastle looks fairly favourable whilsy the impressive Andrew Robertson also has a home tie as Liverpool welcome West Ham to Anfield.

In midfield we start with ‘new boy’ Richarlison. We use the word new loosely because we had the Watford man from GW10-22. He was a little bit of a disappointment but given that I think he’s due a return, his games aren’t bad and he has a GW31 fixture I am happy to welcome him back. He lines up against this seasons FPL star Mo Salah. Salah continues his march towards the scoring record held by Luis Suarez and I don’t think many people will be expecting West Ham to stop him. 4 goals and an assist in his last 3 games he looks a strong captain candidate again this week. Raheem Sterling, having a stunning season himself, plays away at Arsenal on Thursday in a game I expect to be full of goals. There’s been some cracking games played at the Emirates this year and this looks poised to be very similar. Xherdan Shaqiri completes the 4 looking to make it 3 games in a row with goals as he travels to face Leicester.

Up top is the usual suspects. Harry Kane plays another London derby away at injury ravaged Crystal Palace, Roberto Firmino has West Ham and Callum Wilson is home to Newcastle. There looks to be goal potential here so I’m quietly confident we can at least match the 20pts combined they scored us last week.

So there we go. Our plans are in place, our transfers are made and our team is set. The ultimate goal between now and GW31 is to maintain our position and then hope the plan can push us onwards and upwards after that. My only advice at this point is to think logically about when you use all of your remaining chips and to make sure you use all transfers wisely. This is the stage of the season where a mini league is won and lost. 100pt leads can be lost and made in a matter of weeks.

Good luck to you all and thanks for reading. Don’t forget to vote for our GW28 captain below and let’s hope we all see greens on Friday morning!
