Gameweek 7 FPL Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 7 saw some intriguing prospects as Spurs travelled to Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s stadium looking to record a sixth consecutive Premier League away win. A so-far pointless Crystal Palace side would have the uphill task of travelling to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. Later, we would see Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in an early battle of the title-contenders. Sunday began with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal hosting newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion, before Everton faced Burnley at Goodison Park. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates Gameweek 7 FPL Review…

Gameweek 7 FPL Review

Goalkeeper

Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City have had a rough start to the season, and find themselves in 17th position, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference, and they might have Kasper Schmeichel to thank for that, as the Dane bailed the Foxes out against Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday afternoon. Jermain Defoe hit the woodwork as a frustrated Cherries side struggled in their efforts to make a breakthrough. However, they may well consider themselves unlucky not to have been awarded a spot kick when Danny Simpson appeared to handle Mark Pugh’s effort in the penalty area. Eddie Howe voiced his displeasure at the decision, while Leicester will probably be happy with the point in the end.

Defenders

Ben Davies & Kieron Trippier – Many would have feared for Spurs as they came into this season, with the losses of both first choice full-backs for different reasons in Danny Rose and Kyle Walker. However, they’ve both starred on several occasions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and it was no different as they dismantled David Wagner’s Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium during Saturdays early kick-off. Davies even found himself on the score sheet when he found himself in the right place at the right time to slide past Jonas Lossl in the Town net after Chris Lowe’s tackle fell kindly for the Welshman. He also set up Moussa Sissoko to wrap the game up late on.

Nacho Monreal & Hector Bellerin – Arsenal enjoyed a relatively comfortable game as they faced Brighton in the first on Sundays matches at the Emirates. They took the lead after just fifteen minutes when Hector Bellerin’s shot rebounded out to Nacho Monreal, who made no mistake to drill in on the half volley. Arsenal remained solid but for the odd scares provided by Solly March. Alexandre Lacazette thundered a brilliant effort against the post, but it wouldn’t matter as Alexis backheeled the ball through to Alex Iwobi, who smashed into the top corner to score his first since January. Glen Murray came close to halving the deficit when his header glanced just wide late on.

Steven Ward – Burnley recorded a superb victory away at Everton on Sunday to mount yet more pressure on the shoulders of under-fire boss Ronald Koeman. Everton were largely in control early on, but were caught napping when Everton took the lead after stringing together a 24-pass move. As Nikola Vlasic was watching the ball, the marauding Steven Ward darted inside before receiving the ball and cutting it back to fellow Irishman Jeff Hendrick, who neatly wriggled past Morgan Schneiderlin before slotting in past a helpless Jordan Pickford. Everton struggled to create, and time looks to be running out for Koeman.

Midfielders

Marouane Fellaini – Manchester United dismantled a sorry Crystal Palace side at Old Trafford to leave the London-side still yet to pick up a single point, or even score a single goal in the process. They were a goal down inside three minutes, when Juan Mata put the Red Devils in front. Marouane Fellaini doubled the advantage, volleying in the back post, before heading in his second and his side’s third after 49 minutes. Romelu Lukaku netted his customary goal to add gloss to the score line when he tapped in from an Anthony Martial cross. It’s a wealth of attacking riches for Jose Mourinho, with five in-form players competing for four places, and that’s not even including to soon-to-be fit again Zlatan Ibrahimović. It all bodes well for a crack at the title for United.

Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City turned in a performance of the highest order to upstage Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening. The Blues were given an early scare when Thibaut Courtois twice kicked the ball into Gabriel Jesus, which could have easily resulted in going a goal down. The Belgian did however make a superb save to deny Fernandinho just before the break. However, it would take something special to break the deadlock, and it was Kevin De Bruyne who would produce as he played a neat one-two before driving at the Chelsea back four, and unleashing a thunderous strike into the top left-corner to send the away fans into raptures. It’s a real statement of intend from Pep Guardiola’s side, for whom it could have been more comfortable but for Antonio Rudiger’s clearance from Gabriel Jesus’ volley.

Abdoulaye Doucouré & Richarlison – Watford continued their strong start to the season as they dug deep late on to snatch a point at the Hawthorns against West Brom. Two quickfire goals would put the Hornets behind, as first Salomon Rondon, and then Jonny Evans gave the Baggies a strong advantage. However, the Hornets wouldn’t be denied, and Abdoulaye Doucoure pulled a goal back when he finished just before the break. Despite their pressure, time looked to be running out for Marco Silva’s side, when they were awarded a freekick on the left. With everyone up, including ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes, it would be Brazilian youngster Richarlison who headed home to spark wild scenes in the away end. Watford look a real prospect under the guidance of Silva.

Forwards

Harry Kane – There’s not a lot you can say about Harry Kane at the moment, as he netted yet another brace as Spurs demolished what has been a tough Huddersfield side up to now. He broke the deadlock when he latched onto Chris Lowe’s missed control at the back before slotting past Jonas Lossl as the ‘keeper rushed out to close the angle. Ben Davies doubled the lead shortly after. As Huddersfield tried to regroup they were hit again, when Kane cut inside on his supposedly ‘weaker’ left foot before he smashed a curling effort into the corner, giving the keeper no chance. He might have had a hat-trick after Lossl’s mis-kick late on in the first-half, but he recovered well. It may come as a bit of a reality check to Town, but it takes nothing away from their impressive start.
