Gameweek 8 definitely didn’t disappoint as the results yet again proved how unpredictable the Premier League can be. With the eighth gameweek wrapped up, we now must set our sights on the ninth gameweek which follows and who knows what it’s got in store for us. Take a look at our brief insight on how each game could pan out, with our star picks to go with it.
Best of luck and may your arrows be green!
West Ham vs Brighton
Gameweek 9 kicks off on Friday night with the Hammers welcoming the Seagulls. Brighton on one hand narrowly missed out on taking 3 points last time out against Everton, all courtesy to a last gasp Rooney penalty. The Hammers on the other hand have been far from impressive this season, but if they are to get things back on track, this could be the fixture they’ve been waiting for.
STAR MAN: Michail Antonio (7.5m)
A scorer last weekend & with the Hammers’ fixtures easing out, he could be one to consider.
PREDICTION: West Ham 2-1 Brighton
Chelsea vs Watford
The Blues of London were completely outplayed last time out by a side who hadn’t scored since gameweek 1, let alone win a game. Conte and his men will definitely be looking to get things back on track and they won’t be accepting anything less than the 3 points.
STAR MAN: Eden Hazard (10.6m)
With Morata possibly a doubt, the Belgian could easily be deployed to lead the line.
PREDICTION: Chelsea 3-0 Watford
Huddersfield vs Manchester United
Mourinho’s tactics yet again resulted in anything but a loss against a top 6 team as his side seemed comfortable in a hostile afternoon at Anfield. This time around, Jose will be eyeing nothing less than the 3 points as his side travel to the John Smith’s Stadium. An enjoyable away day seems to be on the cards for the United boys.
STAR MAN: Romelu Lukaku (11.8m)
Looked shaky at Anfield but he should be back among goals, as Mourinho will surely be approaching this game with much more attacking intent.
PREDICTION: Huddersfield 0-3 Manchester United
Manchester City vs Burnley
Needless to say that with the form the Citizens are in, they could yet again bang in 5 or 6. Keep calm & load your FPL teams with Pep’s boys.
STAR MAN: Sergio Aguero (11.5m)
Can’t wait for those “Aguerooooo” moments.
PREDICTION: Manchester City 5-0 Burnley
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace
CRYSTAL PALACE HAVE FINALLY SCORED. Yes you heard that right, and they definitely saved it for the perfect moment as they overcame the Champions at Selhurst Park last week. Newcastle on the other hand had to settle for a draw last time out, with the Magpies arguably being the better side.
STAR MAN: Joselu (5.5m)
The Spaniard could be among the goals against a shaky Palace defence.
PREDICTION: Newcastle 2-0 Crystal Palace
Stoke vs Bournemouth
Stoke City have won just one of their last five games and are on the back of a battering at the hands of the high flying Citizens. The Cherries on the other hand have not started the season too well either, having won just the one game so far this season. Should be a pretty even matchup with both sides having their defensive frailties which can be exploited.
STAR MAN: Xherdan Shaqiri (6.0m)
The Swiss international has been very quiet so far this season and this might just be the game where he gets back to form.
PREDICTION: Stoke City 2-1 Bournemouth
Swansea vs Leicester
The Swans have not been very impressive so far this season but managed to win their last home game whilst keeping a clean sheet in doing so. Leicester City on the other hand, having just sacked their coach Shakespeare, which came as a surprise, are unstable at the moment; placed 18th in the table. Both teams will be looking to win the game but the Foxes in particular will be looking to prove a point.
STAR MAN: Jordan Ayew (5.0m)
He has been playing and combining really well with his attacking partner Tammy Abraham and this looks like the perfect game for him to get back into the scoring spree.
PREDICTION: Swansea City 2-2 Leicester City
Southampton vs West Brom
The Saints have managed to win just the two games so far this season and haven’t been the best in front of goal either. West Brom on the other hand don’t seem to be defending too well this season, even under the guidance of their manager, Pulis. They have managed to keep just one clean sheet in their last five fixtures. Southampton will be looking to take advantage of this situation.
STAR MAN: Dusan Tadic (6.5m)
It’s about time this man stepped up for his team and proved his worth.
PREDICTION: Southampton 2-0 West Brom
Everton vs Arsenal
After a horrendous start to their Premier League season, the Toffees face a visit from the Gunners against which they have won just the one Premier League game in the last five meetings and losing the other four. Arsenal on the other hand, after a shock defeat at the hands of Watford, will be fuming and ready to get back on track.
STAR MAN: Alexis Sanchez (11.9m)
He should be back for the weekend’s game with hunger and determination to get his season back on track.
PREDICTION: Everton 1-3 Arsenal
Tottenham vs Liverpool
Tottenham have made a decent start to the Premier League season and find themselves just on the tails of the two Manchester clubs. Spurs haven’t been playing the best of football and the midweek fixture against Real Madrid might just leave the players fatigued. Liverpool on the other hand against the top teams have an impressive record and will be looking to get back to winning ways after their hammering of Maribor midweek.
STAR MAN: Mohamed Salah (9.2m)
His explosive pace on the flanks is bound to cause trouble to the fullbacks and his incisive capabilities are surely a threat to Lloris’s goal.
PREDICTION: Tottenham 2-3 Liverpool
