Victor Lindelöf – Fantasy Premier League Potential

Manchester United made their First Signing of the season with the acquisition of Swedish center back, Victor Lindelöf. Manchester United paid £30.75 million with a potential £8.75 million in add-ons for the Swede who put pen to paper on a 4 year contract with an option of an extra year.

Victor Lindelöf was impressive for Benfica last season with a total of 47 appearances in all competitions, guiding Benfica to the Premiera Liga title. It is a great signing for Manchester United who would be hoping to win their 14th Premier League title with the help of their new defender. On joining United, Lindelof has been quoted saying:

I just want to say to them how happy I am to be here. I’ll do my best to represent this club so I’m very happy to be here. I hope they will enjoy it.”

Fantasy football potential

As Mentioned, Victor Lindelöf was instrumental in guiding Benfica to the league title, making 32 league appearances in total and scoring 1 goal in a title winning season. Jose Mourinho who had been chasing the Swede since last summer will be gearing up to form a defensive partnership with Eric Bailey who was the standout performer for Manchester United at the back.

That being said, it will not be as easy for him as there is a lot of competition for a starting position in the team and if last season goes by anything then Marcos Rojo will be the closest competitor to the Swede as the partnership of Bailey and Rojo yielded 8 clean sheets for Manchester United over the course of the season.

Regardless, Manchester United have got themselves a fine center Back who is just 22 years old and has 96 match’s under his belt with 3 trophies to cap off an amazing last season at Benfica. Manchester United arguably have two of the most exciting and talented young defenders in the form of Bailey and Lindelöf and if Lindelöf turns out to perform anything like Bailey then they have got a fine gem.

With that said fantasy managers can expect Victor Lindelöf to be priced at around 5.5m and can expect him to start the first match of the season against West Ham at Old Trafford. United will be a tough team to score against next season and if he solidifies himself as a regular starter then you could expect a lot of clean sheets and potential bonus points as he was the highest performing young defender in the Primeira Liga with a rating of 7.03 over 32 appearances for Benfica’s title winning season.
