Captaincy Analysis – FPL Gameweek 18 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

This gameweek could be seen as the true start to the festive Premier League fixtures, as we see gameweeks come quickly. That said, your captaincy selection becomes even more important, but before we look at this week’s picks, here’s how last week’s captaincy analysis did:

1. Harry Kane – 5 points
2. Leroy Sane – 10 points
3. Felipe Anderson – 6 points
Differential – Diogo Jota – 4 points
Gamble – Mohamed Salah – 2 points

Now onto this week’s selections:

1. Leroy Sane (CRY)

As I sat in the Man City away end, two thoughts sprang to mind: Why am I here? Honestly, why does anyone go to Man City away? And 2, how good is Leroy Sane!? Two assists for the German and he was taken off early as well, taking his overall tally to 9 assists, as well as 6 goals. He’s only played 900 minutes; less than 10 games! He’s averaging 1.5 goals/assists per game, and with a home fixture to Palace coming up, he’s 100% the go-to player for a Man City captain.

2. Eden Hazard (LEI)

1 goal and 3 assists for the Belgian in his last 2 games in the league, and also scored in the Carabao Cup midweek, and it’s fair to say that he’s starting to come into form after his spell of poor performances. He’s by far the most frustrating player in the league I think, as whenever I own him he hardly ever impresses, but as soon as you take him out, he turns into a machine. He’s owned by 35% of FPL managers, and may be a safe option for this week, especially as this is ‘rotation-madness’ with games literally coming more or less every day.

3. Xherdan Shaqiri (WOL)

I was originally going to put Firmino, because I thought he was absolutely fantastic against Man United, but his lack of goals/assists worries me. Shaqiri changed the game when he was brought on, and despite the luckiness of his goals, sometimes you need that little bit of luck. I’ve liked the look of him all season and he looks completely different to his Stoke days, and although you should never back the “early kick-off” (It’s a Friday night match), Shaqiri’s form has definitely convinced me to to consider him for captaincy.

Differential – Gerard Deulofeu (TOT)

Side-note, I absolutely love Deulofeu. Watford scored their first and second goal against his former club (Everton), and he didn’t celebrate either, and then stayed behind 2 hours to speak to Everton fans. That’s rare in this day and age, and I love him for it.

Back to FPL now, and the retro-FPL’ers will be happy to see a name that they haven’t seen for many years! The amount of minutes he’s playing is a slight worry, but he was tremendous against Cardiff last week, scoring a terrific goal and setting one up as well, getting all 3 bonus points in the process too. He’s only owned by 0.6% and Watford take on West Ham this week, who have been shaky at the back this season, especially at the Olympic stadium, so I’d definitely keep an eye on the Spanish winger.

Gamble – Harry Kane (EVE)

Spurs and Everton have the shortest amount of rest in this festive period compared to the other teams in the league, and for some reason play on Sunday for absolutely no reason, whatsoever. With this in mind, and the fact Kane has a slight injury, I’d be wary when considering captaining Kane, because he’s definitely going to be benched in at least one of these games. whilst it’s not certain it’ll be the Everton match, I’d consider opting for another player for captaincy due to the huge gamble. Should he start, he’s got a great record against Everton, scoring 6 goals in the last 3 games against them; a brace in each of those games by the way!
