Captaincy Analysis – FPL Gameweek 5 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

The international break is nearly over and Premier League football is back this weekend! With that said, many fantasy managers will be scrambling to sort their teams, with their captaincy selections being just as important. Before we look at this week’s pick, here’s how last week’s Captaincy Analysis did:

1. Sergio Aguero – 6 points
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8 points
3. Mohamed Salah – 2 points
Differential – Theo Walcott – 1 point
Gamble – Callum Wilson – 2 points

Now onto this week’s picks:

1. Sergio Aguero (FUL)

He’s now the most popular FPL player with over 47% of managers choosing to own him (more than Salah, which may be surprising to some). He’s scored 3 goals and assisted twice in the opening four games, a very good record and one that he’d hope to increase come Sunday, when Man City take on Fulham at home, which on paper, looks like it could be a breeze for the Argentinian. With Tottenham and Liverpool playing each other, it’s more likely than not that Aguero will definitely be the most popular player to captain, so if you want to maintain a high rank, I’d definitely recommend him.

2. Eden Hazard (CAR)

Still yet to lose, still yet to blank. He’s scored twice and assisted twice, literally one for every game he’s played, even though in the first two games he only played less than 40 minutes. Chelsea take on Cardiff at home and again, it’s another game that on paper looks like an easy one for the home side. Just under 18% of FPL managers own the Belgian, meaning that he could prove to be a very good player to captain for those trying to catch up if they’ve had a slow start!

3. Romelu Lukaku (WAT)

Three goals in three starts for the big man, and surprisingly owned by only 6% of FPL managers, sneaking himself in as a little differential for this week. He features low on the list purely due to the fixtures. While the previous two players have relatively ‘straight-forward’ games at their respective home grounds, United play away to another unbeaten team in Watford, who surprised everyone with a win against Spurs last week. Can they produce another shock? He’s on good form Lukaku, so I’d definitely look at him as we all know what he’s capable of.

Differential – Danny Ings (BHA)

The former Liverpool man has been plagued with injuries the past few seasons, but now he’s finally got a starting place up top, he really doesn’t look that bad for the Saints. He’s only played the full 90 once, but this can’t be surprising because of his lack of match fitness over the years. Having said that, he’s still managed to find the net twice in four games, not bad for a £5.5m striker only owned by 6% of managers! Southampton have a home game to Brighton next, and if you’re feeling risky, maybe Ings might be the man for you to captain! Definitely one to look at, because not many will look at him this week!

Gamble – Mohamed Salah (TOT)

It isn’t a captaincy article without the Egyptian featuring somewhere on the list. An away game to Tottenham is the first really tough task that Liverpool have had this season, so it’d be interesting to see how he fares against Spurs who’ll be eager to get back to winning ways after their defeat to Watford prior to the international break. However, Mo Salah has proven time and time again that he is fixture proof, and perhaps even Spurs won’t be able to stop him from getting on the scoresheet.
