Fantasy Football Potential – Andriy Yarmolenko

West Ham have continued to splash the cash, this time round it’s for Borussia Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko for a fee worth in the region of £20 million. The Ukrainian has played 76 times for his country scoring an impressive 35 goals in the process.

In club football Yarmolenko has also been successful. His best spell was with Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv. He won seven domestic trophies which included three league titles. On top of that he has won a whole host of individual honours, including Ukrainian footballer of the year for four of the last five years.

Yarmolenko said:

“I am happy to join West Ham United. West Ham is a big club with great fans. I cannot promise them I am the second Lionel Messi, but I can promise one thing, which is that I will be giving them my all on the football pitch.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (7.0m)

Yarmolenko looks to be a really exciting player and being 28 years old, he should still have a couple of years left in him. He’s been priced at £7.0m which is fair but I would have liked to see him a tad cheaper. To put it in perspective he is the same price as Henrikh Mkhitaryan so it would be tough to pick him ahead of the Arsenal man.

Like some other new West Ham signings, he also brings some European experience which may be much needed throughout the season. Yarmolenko has played a whopping 30 times in the Champions League, scoring five and assisting six. If you can’t decide between Yarmolenko and Mkhitaryan, why not select both?

West Ham’s first five fixtures are as follows: Liverpool (A), Bournemouth (H), Arsenal (A), Wolves (H) and Everton (A). It’s a varied beginning for West Ham but Yarmolenko will be used to games against these big sides away from home.
