Fantasy Football Potential – Ben Hamer

Huddersfield have signed former Leicester goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a free transfer after his contract ran out at the fellow Premier League club. Hamer had played just 12 league matches for Leicester in his four year spell, which has lead to his eventual release.

Hamer has spent his whole career playing throughout the football league, and when Leicester were promoted to England’s top flight, he finally got his first taste of Premier League football. Before hand, he had played out on loan with various clubs including Brentford, where he had three separate loan spells spanning four years.

David Wagner has said:

“I’ve spoken with Ben and he arrives here wanting to play Premier League football, which is great for us all. Jonas Lössl had a fantastic first season at the Club and this further competition will bring even more out of everyone, which is ideal for me and the team.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.0m)

Ben Hamer is a £4.0m goalkeeper on FPL, and every year FPL managers across the world are looking for that elusive £4.0m starting goalkeeper, but I’m afraid that Hamer isn’t the one… yet. The above mentioned Lossl will seemingly be the starting keeper for the Terriers but all it takes is an injury and then his ownership will be rising quickly.

His previous experience in the Premier League stretches to a touch under a thousand minutes, keeping four clean sheets. Three of these clean sheets came in eight games in the 2014/15 season where he produced 31 points and was the £4.0m starting keeper every manager was looking for. Can he replicate something similar this year?

Huddersfield’s first five fixtures are as follows: Chelsea (H), Manchester City (A), Cardiff (H), Everton (A) and Crystal Palace (H). I highly doubt that Hamer will play a part in any of these games but a suspension or injury early on against Chelsea or City would mean Hamer has a nice few games to grab a few points and possibly be a welcome FPL hero.
