Fantasy Football Potential – Bernardo

Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Brazilian defender Bernardo from RB Leipzig. The fee for him is in the region of £9 million. The 23 year old predominantly plays as a defender but can also play in midfield.

He has previous experience of winning trophies which will be music to the ears for Brighton fans. He won the Austrian Cup and the Austrian Bundesliga in the 2015/16 season with Red Bull Salzburg. Bernardo has also made three Champions League appearances whilst at Leipzig.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Bernardo to the club. He is a strong, committed defender who can play on the left or right, and so his versatility gives us good options at the back. For a young player he already has good experience, having played in the Bundesliga, the Champions League and the Europa League.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

Bernardo has been priced at £4.5m meaning he is the same price as the other starting defenders at Brighton. The Brazilian will more than likely start due to the sheer amount of money they have spent on him.

Being 6ft 1, you’d expect him to be dangerous from set pieces so he could bring a decent amount of goals to your back line. He hasn’t proved that in the past however, scoring just twice his whole career.

Brighton’s first five fixtures are as follows : Watford (A), Manchester United (H), Liverpool (A), Fulham (H) and Southampton (A). It will be a struggle to get clean sheets from these five games but if he can, he could also be within the running for bonus points.
