Fantasy Football Potential – Danny Ward

Leicester have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward for a deal worth in the region of £12.5 million. Ward was deprived of first team football last season but did play 43 Championship games in Huddersfield’s play off winning campaign back in 2016/17. In that time, he kept 12 clean sheets including one in the play-off final versus Reading.

He has also managed to feature four times for the Welsh senior national team after seven caps at various youth levels. He was on the plane to France for Euro 2016 and started Wales’ first group match against Slovakia due to an injury to Wayne Hennessey.

Claude Puel has said:

“I’m very happy to welcome Danny to Leicester City Football Club. Pre-season preparations have started well for us and with Danny joining the group, it will give us even more competition in the squad, which is crucial for us ahead of what will be another very competitive Premier League campaign.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

Ward played 180 minutes of Premier League football least season, where he conceded four times and failed to keep a clean sheet as he registered just six FPL points. However, his move to Leicester could see him play regular football, as long as Kasper Schmeichel makes his rumoured move to Chelsea.

If Ward is starting next season for Leicester then his FPL potential will be very high. His price of £4.5m is brilliant and unrivalled from any other clubs to have finished in the top half. He has also proved he can save penalties as well with penalty shootout saves in Huddersfield’s play off winning run.

Leicester’s first five fixtures are as follows: Manchester United (A), Wolves (H), Southampton (A), Liverpool (H) and Bournemouth (A). It’s a varied beginning for Puel’s side but I can see Ward grabbing at least a couple of clean sheets from these matches if he’s number one come the start of the season.
