Fantasy Football Potential – Josh Murphy

Cardiff have completed the signing of Norwich winger Josh Murphy for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £11 million. Josh joins his brother Jacob in the Premier League who joined Newcastle from Norwich last summer.

In 85 games in a Norwich shirt, Josh Murphy scored 11 goals and set up a few goals on top of that. He joins a Cardiff side who will be playing just their second Premier League campaign and Murphy will be key as to how good this season will be for Neil Warnock’s side.

Warnock said:

“Josh is a player I’ve watched for a number of years now and he’s always excited me when he runs with the ball. I think he’s at the right age now with his best still to come. He can play an instrumental part in helping us to stay in the Premier League and I know he’s looking forward to the challenge.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.0m)

Murphy has had previous Premier League experience at Norwich, but it lasted just 139 minutes, securing 8 fantasy points, with no goals or assists. He’s been priced the same as his twin at £5.0m and could be a very decent option for a fifth midfielder.

The fifth cheap midfielder doesn’t have any clear contenders like last year where we had Tom Carroll and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but Murphy could easily be the answer. He will be at a team which will be facing an uphill struggle all season, but there have been many players that have been in and around relegation and produced a lot of fantasy points.

Cardiff’s first five fixtures are as follows: Bournemouth (A), Newcastle (H), Huddersfield (A), Arsenal (H) and Chelsea (A). It’s a mixed bag for Cardiff but they’ll be looking for a good start against three winnable sides at the start.
