Fantasy Football Potential – Matteo Guendouzi

Arsenal have the made the acquisition of young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient for a fee of £7 million plus bonuses. The 19 year old had previously spent nine years with Paris Saint-Germain from the age of six and looks to be a talent for the future.

He has made 12 appearances for France at various youth levels scoring twice. He does have Moroccan heritage and was approached by the manager in 2017 but after a meeting between his father and the manager, he decided to remain and pledge his allegiance with France.

Unai Emery has said:

“We are delighted Matteo is joining us. He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him. He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient. He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

With Guendouzi joining for just an initial £7 million and considering his age, I wouldn’t expect him to be a vital player for Emery just yet. He’s played just 50 senior matches for Lorient and their B side, so he certainly won’t be ready for 20-30 Premier League games this season.

His £4.5m price tag does make him slightly intriguing for this campaign. If the Arsenal midfield do get hit by injuries then he could become a very decent player. I believe in a couple of years time Guendouzi will be in a lot of fantasy teams but for now I can’t see much potential.

Arsenal’s first five fixtures are as follows: Manchester City (H), Chelsea (A), West Ham (H), Cardiff (A) and Newcastle (A). It’s a difficult start for Arsenal but it does get easier and injuries or suspensions could mean Guendouzi may become a viable option in FPL.
