Fantasy Football Potential – Stuart Armstrong

Southampton have signed Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong for around £7 million. Armstrong joins Southampton after almost 300 games in a Celtic shirt, recording 49 goals and 57 goals in the process.

Armstrong will seemingly replace the outgoing Dusan Tadic and he has big boots to fill as Tadic had been instrumental for Southampton over the past few years. Armstrong will also join up with former team mate Fraser Forster and joins a long list of Celtic players to join the Saints.

Commenting on the move, Armstrong said:

“Southampton seems a really good fit for me. Watching from afar, I really enjoy the attractive football that they play and I’m very happy to be here. Every season, I put demands on myself to create and score goals. I hope going forwards from here that it will be the same this term at St Mary’s.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.5m)

Armstrong has been priced at £5.5m, which I find very interesting. If he plays a starting role at Southampton then he will surely be in the goals and assists. Despite battling relegation last season, Armstrong and other signings could be what they need to gain a top half finish once again.

Because of Armstrong being an unknown prospect to most FPL managers he is owned by less than 1.0% making him a huge differential. The only concern with picking him is whether he can make the huge step up from the Scottish League to the Premier League.

Southampton’s first five fixtures are as follows: Burnley (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Brighton (H). Similar to last season, the Saints start with a favourable set of fixtures which will attract many to select players such as Armstrong.
