FPL Dilemma – Eden Hazard vs Kevin De Bruyne – Fantasy Football Tips

The battle of the Belgians. Managers will know that at some point n the season they will have both Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne in their teams. However, who has the edge at the start of the season? Will it come down to cost? Fixtures? Or just general playing styles?

Here’s our thoughts on this FPL Dilemma…

Eden Hazard (Chelsea, £10.5m)

With Eden Hazard looking certain to stay at Stamford Bridge for at least the upcoming season, this is a massive boost to many FPL managers, as a player of his quality can really transform you fantasy season.

The Belgian wizard is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and rightly so. In the previous campaign, Hazard managed to score 12 goals in 34 appearances, along with 4 assists. This was not his best season, but he is consistently in the double digits for goal scoring. In the 2016/17 campaign he scored 16 in 36, which wasn’t a bad return and now has 69 goals in 2018 Premier League outings.

With a new manager, it’ll be interesting to see where Sarri will look to play Hazard as he has featured as a centre forward/attacking midfielder before. There are no doubts about his playing time, if he is fit he starts and at £10.5m he could be the premium midfielder fantasy managers want.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m, Manchester City)

Kevin De Bruyne is arguably the best midfielder in the Premier League. The Belgian’s creativity and ability to pick out a pass from any angle or distance, makes him a valuable asset to Pep Guardiola and Man City. For this reason he is potentially the first name on the managers team sheet and although he didn’t play in the Community Shield, he’ll soon be back starting every gameweek.

In the 2017/18 season De Bruyne scored 8 goals and gained 16 assists, which was the highest in the league, with Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Sterling coming just behind him. He will no doubt want to do this again in the upcoming season and valued at £10.0m he could be a bargain compared to some other players.

The Verdict

With both players having played in the world cup for Belgium, its unclear if they will both start in gameweek 1. However, after this, there will be no doubt that they will start week in week out.

Personally, I’d include De Bruyne in my squad all season unless a suspension or injury occurs. Hazard could be a player to rotate to upgrade elsewhere in my team. Ultimately, they are both incredible players and could perform at any point of the season, but that extra £0.5m will also come in handy elsewhere in the squad.
