FPL Updates Gameweek 19 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 18 has come and gone and it’s left with a sour taste heading into Christmas. 46 points was quite some way behind the average of 55. After some success on Friday, I was rather hopeful of Saturday, but was I wrong. Of the 8 games played, every single player in our side blanked. Points were only scored in the single game days on Friday and Sunday.

Surprisingly we made it through in the cup by 2 points. A resurgence of Manchester United’s attacking assets was a welcomed sight with one week left till we play the wildcard and I’m very surprised to have held it for the longest amount of time you possibly can.

Let’s reflect on this bombshell of a gameweek:

Blanks all round in our defence. Fabianski side were defeated at home, Doherty somehow came out of the Liverpool game without an attacking return and Alonso hit the post, spurning a glorious opportunity of a double digit haul. A shout out to Digne who scored minus 1 after he conceded 6 goals at home to Spurs, the first minus point since Richarlison’s red card.

Captain Sane was kept in Wan-Bissaka’s pocket for the majority of the game, as City lost at home 3-2. Anderson and Snodgrass could replicate last week’s return as both scored 2. Salah brought home a second double digit return in 3 weeks with a goal and an assist on Friday night. Richarlison also picked up a consolation assist in his 6-2 defeat.

Kane had a stellar gameweek against a woeful Everton defence. A brace and an assist earned him a 15 pointer heading into 2 juicy home games. Wilson wasn’t involved in either of The Cherries 2 goals at home to Brighton.

Transfers: With the wildcard coming next week it’s time for 2 punts with our free transfers.
Wilson who faces Spurs is replaced with Rashford. Anderson is replaced by another united player, Paul Pogba.

Both have risen in price already and should help boost our transfer value. Long term it’s unclear whether both will make the cut in the wildcard, especially with Lukaku returning. Pogba looks nailed on and enjoying football again. His 3 assists along with him nearly scoring really impressed me. A home game against Huddersfield who shipped 3 goals against Southampton and new manager OGS first appearance at Old Trafford should see a lively and attacking performance from the duo.

Gameweek 19:

Patricio takes Fabianski’s place with the easier game away at Fulham. Neither look that likely of keeping clean sheets but Fulham look less of an attacking threat than the new look Southampton side. He doubles up with Doherty and Alexander-Arnold who I’ve held while he’s been out injured looks set to return on boxing day at home to Newcastle and will be fresh. Alonso travels to Watford and needs to impress if he’s to make the wildcard cut. Wan-Bissakarounds out the 4 man defence. He continues to impress and looks to be rising to £4.4m. Digne missed out and is on the bench.

I’m hopefully of our whole midfield 4 doing well this week. Salah and Pogba are both at home to poor defences. Richarlison has Burnley who’ve been conceding shots for fun and the Marco Silva will want them to bounce back. Sane has a chance to forget about that poor performance against Leicester.

Up front Kane has two captainable home games on the trot. Firstly against Bournemouth. With Son and Eriksen in good form, it only benefits Kane and if they both start I see him replicating his performance on Sunday. Rashford’s upcoming games can’t get much better, if he performs like he did at Cardiff he could easily make the wildcard cut.

Captaincy: Kane and Salah were the 2 stand out options. If I could guarantee Spurs to play their strongest XI, England’s captain would take the armband. However, with them having less days rest there’s a chance Son or Eriksen may be rested which affects Kane. Liverpool have had 2 more days to rest and should field a strong XI as they look to stay top of the league. If in doubt I usually go with the midfielder due to the clean sheet point and extra point for a goal. Both I fancy to do well but Salah edges it for this week.

Happy Christmas to everyone, make sure you don’t take too many transfers Tuesday night!
