There is no rest for the wicked and no rest for the obsessive Fantasy Premier League players in the world. It’s summer, the transfer window hasn’t even “officially” opened, but there are transfers taking place and being agreed, which make the FPL minds amongst us start contemplating the Fantasy Premier League season ahead. The Website has been promised to us the week of July 10th and there are new players and former favourites at new clubs for us to consider when we initially pick our FPL sides.
So even before you knew you wanted it, here I am with an FPL show to help you all make the most of the up and coming Fantasy Premier League 2017/18 season. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m JNO and I’m the host on the FPL Today Youtube Channel, and also a regular contributor to FPL Updates, who have supported me and my FPL endevours for two seasons now. This here, is the website to help you… I say that from first hand experience. Last season I finished just outside the top 10k, making myself one of the top 0.25% of players in the game. So whilst I might not always be right… trust me that happens a lot… my advice has helped many and I plan for it to help many more.
But enough about me and this great website and lets get into the article that is linked with my FPL Today “FPL Transfer Window” show. In this article we focus on CONFIRMED transfers, and look at their stats from last season, discuss what their potential maybe in FPL 2017/18 and here is also where we will try and estimate their price in the FPL game. We’ve got three players too look at today, so lets get on with it.
Jordan Pickford to Everton (Estimated Price: 5.0m)
The biggest signing in this epsiode is the transfer of Jordan Pickford from Sunderland to Everton for £30 Million. That’s a heft sum for a goalkeeper that only really proved himself last season. But he’s young, he’s English… So he’s expensive. Scoring 102 points last season in a Sunderland side that was woeful though, showed us some promise that he could be a good Fantasy Premier League asset now that he’s moved to a more competitive side. With only four clean sheets last season, Jordan Pickford had to rely on save points to boost his points total and taking that into consideration, he did rather well. In 10 games of the season he managed 6 saves or more, bringing in those Save bonus points and getting 5 points or more in those 10 games. Now moving to an Everton side, perhaps he can get more clean sheets to boost his points potential, whilst still getting those bonus points.
Moving to a side like Everton, a more established Premier League side, and clearly showing some great potential and most likely being signed to be Everton’s No.1 Goalkeeper for the foreseeable future, a price rise from 4.0m is assured. General price for a goalkeeper in a side like Everton is £5.0m.
Harry Maguire to Leicester City (Estimated Price: 5.0m)
At the end of last season, Leicester City ended up playing Christian Fuchs at center back, which highlighted to the world that they have no depth in the center back position. So the signing of Harry Maguire makes senses. At 24 years of age, he’s a English Center back with experience of the Premier League and Youth on his side compared to the ageing Robert Huth and Wes Morgan. £17 Million maybe considered too much for a lot looking at this transfer, but that’s the cost of buying English in the current transfer climate. And it’s not that he didn’t look like he had something to offer Premier League clubs last season in a Hull side that had a resurgence that almost saw them stay in the Premier League. The performances picked up from GW23 and in 15 games he got six point returns of 5 or more, scoring 2 goals in that period. And if their’s a club that take playes that many think might not be anything special, and turn them into an integral part of a winning side, it’s Leicester City. On top of that Craig Shakespeare definately turned the Leicester City side around, that looked doomed to fight relegation at Christmas, instead ending up finishing firmly in mid table.
Again, moving to a more established Premier League side and showing some promise as a goal scoring defender, as well as the real life £17 million transfer value, £4.5 million which was his price last year is too low. A bump up of £0.5 m is expected in the game up to £5.0 million.
Ederson to Manchester City (Estimated Price: 5.5m)
Well let’s be honest with ourselves. Pep Guardiola has struggled to find a keeper to fit his tactical system at Manchester City. Joe Hart, Claudio Bravo, Willy Cabellero have all failed to perform for Pep anywhere near to what he was used to. Then again, he did have Manuel Neuer to call upon at Bayern Munich. So now Pep has signed another Goalkeeper to try and perform that Sweeper Keeper role that Pep Guardiola loves. Ederson moves from Benfica for an undisclosed fee to Manchester City, and seems like the perfect fit. However Pep’s defensive tactical system had failed to really cement itself last season. Ederson comes from a Benfica side that finished first and only conceded 18 goals in a 34 game season. Ederson appeared in 27 of those games averaging 2.1 saves per game and even managed an assist. So it seems like he wasn’t the most busy of keepers in Portugal. And whilst some great talents have come from Portugal, the step up in talent is evident. So Ederson is clearly an unknown as far as his talent is concerned.
If he is going to be Manchester City’s No.1 between the posts, you’d expect at least a price to match that. Most likely going to start at £5.5 million in the game, it wouldn’t be surprising if FPL even put him up to £6.0 million. But with no previous Premier League history, 5.5 is the best bet.
