Charlie Gilmour – Fantasy Football Potential

Norwich City have announced the signing of Charlie Gilmour on a two year contract after the youngster was released from Arsenal in June. The 20 year old plays as a defensive midfielder spent 14 years at Arsenal and now will join up with the Norwich development side.

Norwich have clearly been on a mission to strengthen their under-23’s signing 6 other players so far this transfer window that will be joining the under-23’s and Gilmour will join up with these players also.

Player History

Gilmour joined the Arsenal youth academy at the age of 6 and went on to make his first team debut in the Europa League in 2018 against Vorskla Poltava. Across the course of the 2018/19 season he made 19 appearances in the Premier League 2, scoring 3 times and assisting on 2 occasions. He did also make 2 Europa League appearances (21 minutes total) and 4 EFL Trophy appearances (314 minutes total) for the under-23’s where he also scored a goal against Cheltenham Town.

Internationally, Gilmour has played for England under-16’s and under-17’s, but he is now a Scottish international, having played most recently at the under-19’s youth level.

Fantasy Football Potential

As previously mentioned, Gilmour will be joining the under-23’s squad initially as they look to improve the quality of their development squad since promotion to the Premier League. Gilmour will join Archie MariDaniel Adshead and Rob Nizet in the under-23’s, as they have all signed for Norwich this summer.

That said, Norwich City’s opening 5 fixtures are; Liverpool (A), Newcastle (H), Chelsea (H), West Ham (A) and Manchester City (H). Therefore, with this tough opening schedule, playing last years top 3 in the opening 5, Norwich City players are likely to have a low TSB% (teams selected by) at the start of the season.
