Fantasy Football Potential – Adam Masina

Watford have signed full back Adam Masina from Italian side Bologna for an undisclosed fee. The Moroccan born defender has played six times for the Italy u21 team which include their Euro 2017 qualification.

Masina played 124 times for Bologna in the league, scoring four times from predominantly the left back position. He has an individual honour to his name as well. He won the Série B footballer of the year in 2015, so it is clear that he has some pedigree about him.

Masina has said:

“I’ve followed the Premier League since two or three years ago because I think it is my football style, and I think one day it can help me become better.I’m here to help this team and to make the fans happy. I am a worker. I work every single day to improve for my team and for the fans. Every single day.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

Masina will have to work hard to make it into the Watford first team as their left back position has strong competition. For the last few seasons Jose Holebas has been the starting left back/left wing back with Marvin Zeegelaar seemingly coming in last season as back up.

This could suggest that Masina will play a different role for the Hornets which is disappointing for his potential in terms of FPL as he may be played further back, in the centre back position. With Masina being 6ft 3, it makes sense that he could play in the centre, and he could be a good threat from set pieces. His £4.5m price tag could become a bargain if he can get a run of games and start to score goal from defence.

Watford’s first five fixtures are as follows: Brighton (H), Burnley (A), Crystal Palace (H), Tottenham (H) and Manchester United (H). It’s an ideal first three games for Watford and Masina but after that it’s a tough run of matches so he may not be in the points for long.
