Fantasy Football Potential – Jannik Vestergaard

Southampton have signed Borussia Monchengladbach centre back Jannik Vestergaard for a fee in the region of £18 million. The defender stands at a remarkable two metres tall and will certainly be dominant in the air in both boxes.

The great Dane, has played 16 times for his country since his debut back in 2013. He has the one goal that came in a 2-2 draw against Sweden in Euro 2016 qualification. He was also on the plane to Russia this summer with Denmark and featured for them as they were knocked out by Switzerland in the round of 16.

Mark Hughes has said:

“He represents another excellent addition to our squad this summer, and brings with him an extensive amount of experience for his age. That means he can not only help us in the present, but that he has the potential to develop his game even more with us, which is what we want as a club and is clearly exciting for both parties.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.0m)

Vestergaard has been priced at £5.0m which is probably fair but has put off a lot of FPL managers due to other Southampton players being cheaper. With his obvious goal threat he should bring goals and assists from set pieces and bring bonus points for these returns.

I believe his current ownership of under 1% will rise throughout the season as Vestergaard looks a very exciting prospect. He scored seven goals in 66 games meaning in one Premier League season he would manager 3-4 goals which is a very decent return.

Southampton’s first five fixtures are as follows: Burnley (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Brighton (H). It’s another reasonable start to the season for Southampton and Vestergaard should be able to grab a healthy amount of clean sheets from these.
