Fantasy Football Potential – Jorginho

Chelsea have finally made their first signing of the summer and it is Napoli midfielder Jorginho. The fee for the Italian could amount to £57 million. He joins just days after Chelsea announced that Antonio Conte would be replaced with Jorginho’s manager at Napoli, Maurizio Sarri.

Jorginho plays central midfield in a defensive role, as you can tell by his scoring record which is just two goals in 133 Série A appearances. Whilst with Napoli he won the Coppa Italia in the 2014/15 season. For Italy, the 26 year old has played eight times since his debut back in 2016, where he was partly managed by outgoing manager Conte.

Jorginho said:

‘I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.’

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.0m)

With such a poor scoring record you would think that he isn’t going to find himself in many FPL teams. At Hellas Verona he did score at a decent rate of 11 in 89 so Jorginho does clearly have some potential going forward and with N’golo Kante playing defensively, he could be pushed further forward.

Jorginho has been priced at £5.0m which could become a bargain if he does play further forward than he did at Napoli. Sarri likes to play a 4-3-3 formation with Jorginho sitting but at that price he may be one to watch for this season.

Chelsea’s first five fixtures are as follows: Huddersfield (A), Arsenal (H), Newcastle (A), Bournemouth (H) and Cardiff (H). It’s quite an easy start for Jorginho and Chelsea and they’ll be looking for at least 10 points from these matches.
