Fantasy Football Potential – Yves Bissouma

Brighton and Hove Albion have made the marquee signing of Mali international Yves Bissouma from French side Lille. Despite being born in the Ivory Coast, the midfielder has 15 caps for Mali. To make matters worse for the Ivory Coast, Bissouma scored the decisive goal in Mali’s 1-0 AFCON semi-final win over them in 2016, the goal coming in the 89th minute after Bissouma came on just 13 minutes earlier.

For club, Bissouma has played 23 and 24 matches over the last two seasons in the Ligue 1, scoring three times. The 21 year old looks to be a decent young talent and Brighton do lack a bit of youth in their squad so he could be a breath of fresh air.

Chris Hughton has said:

“We are delighted to have signed Yves, and are pleased to welcome him to the club. We have been keen to strengthen the squad in the central midfield positions, and this will add to our options in this area. I am very much looking forward to working with him.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.0m)

Bissouma has been priced at £5.0m, which tends to suggest that FPL do think he could be a threat as they have priced him the same as the likes of Ruben Neves and Jack Wilshere who have been popular with FPL managers this pre-season.

He will most likely play in the centre of midfield in Chris Hughton’s preferred formation of 4-4-1-1. With the sheer amount of money they have spent on him, it looks like he will be a vital to Brighton pushing on from their good finish last season.

Brighton’s first five fixtures are as follows: Watford (A), Manchester United (H), Liverpool (A), Fulham (H) and Southampton (A). It’s a mixed start for the Seagulls but players like Bissouma will need to step up against the big teams, and could always potentially pop up with a goal. Brighton famously beat United at the Amex last time around, so why can’t they do it again?
