Joel Senior – Fantasy Football Potential

Burnley have signed Joel Senior from National League North side Curzon Ashton on a 12-month deal, with the option of a further year. Senior spent two weeks with Burnley on trial earlier this year, with this signing extending the transfers between Burnley and Curzon Ashton.

Here’s what Joel Senior has said about his move to Burnley:

“I want this more than I’ve wanted anything before. I’ve been told what Burnley want me to do and I just have to follow that and hopefully someone believes me in there and I can have a career there.”

Player History

The right back started out at Oldham Athletic as he joined their youth system, but at the age of 15 he was released by the club. Senior went on to play for Maine Road and FC United of Manchester. During 2017-2019 Senior made 68 appearances for FC United of Manchester, scoring on one occasion being against Trafford in the Manchester Premier Cup. In February he joined Curzon Ashton, making his debut against Bradford Park Avenue, immediately attracting attention as he only played 10 appearances, whilst having a trial at Huddersfield and Burnley.

Senior has spent two weeks with Burnley on trial and was an unused sub in Burnley’s Lancashire FA Senior Cup final defeat against Backburn. That said the 19-year-old impressed in training with the Claret’s Under 23’s who play their home games at Curzon Ahston.

Fantasy Football Potential

Joel Senior will join Burnley’s U23’s working under Steve Stone and he will look to replicate the success that the likes of Dwight McNeil, Ali Koiki, Josh Benson and Anthony Gelnnon have had as they have made the jump from the Under-23’s to the first team squad last season.

The defender will unlikely make this jump during the 2019/20 Premier League season, but could be one of future fantasy premier league seasons, as he will look to fill the space in the Under-23’s left by right back Jordan Cropper, who is likely to be sent out on loan this season.
