Marvelous Nakamba – Fantasy Football Potential

Aston Villa have announced the signing of central midfielder Marvelous Nakamba from Club Brugge. The 25 year old Zimbabwe International has signed for a reported fee of 12 million euros.

“Marvelous fits the criteria of the type of player we were looking for,” Villa manager Dean Smith told the club website. “He’s very mobile, he’s very good in possession and he will fit in with our style of play.”

Aston Villa have splashed about £100 million in this transfer window and have signed 12 players which is similar to that of Fulham last season.

Player History

Nakamba started his career with Bantu Rovers in 2010,aged just 16. He signed for French side Nancy in December 2012, aged 18 for an undisclosed fee. But his professional debut came later in may 2014 against Angers SCO.

Later in 2014, he went on a trial with Dutch side Vitesse. He subsequently signed a 4 year deal. He did make 26 appearances in all competitions which also included both the 2nd tier and the 1st division of the Eredevisie.

In 2015/16, he was more prominent in the first team, making 33 appearances, scoring a goal and providing 3 assists. He managed to carve out more playing time in 16/17, making 36 appearances mostly from defensive midfield.

In June 2017, He moved to Club Brugge for a fee of around £4 million on a 4 year deal. He made 44 appearances in his 1st season from defensive midfield which could only result in 1 assist.

Last season, he couldn’t make many appearances but he did make significant appearances in the Champions League which only added to his experiences.

Fantasy Player Potential

He is the kind of player who likes to mop up things at the back and doesn’t involve himself much in the creative side of things. Plus, Aston Villa might prove to be one of the most unexpected sides in the league just because of the amount of signings they have made.

So, he may not be the best option in terms of FPL. At best, he can be a budget player which could help the managers to fill the rest of their squad.
