Trezeguet – Fantasy Football Potenial

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Egyptian winger Mahmoud Hassan, known as Trezeguet from Kasimpasa for a fee of around £8.75 million. Trezeguet had an impressive campaign with Anderlecht in the Turkish league, scoring 9 goals and providing 10 assists in 38 appearances last season. He has also, in the process become the ninth signing for the club.

Here’s what Villa head coach Dean Smith has had to say about the transfer:

“We’re really excited to work with Trez. I’ve watched him a number of times. He’s the type of wide player that we have been looking for who is direct, causes problems for the opposition in the final third and scores goals.”

Player History

He was given the name Trezeguet by his youth coach in his school because of his goalscoring record and resemblance to French footballer David Trezeguet. He joined the youth academy of Al Ahly, where he converted to a midfielder after the advice from coach Ali Maher. After being promoted to the senior squad by manager Manuel Jose de Jesus,he made his professional debut in the 2012 CAF Champions League against rivals Zamalek. After offering him to Nice, Nottingham Forest and Celtic, he stayed with Al Ahly, leading them to a victory in the Egyptian Premier League in the 2014/15 season.

In August 2015, he joined the Belgian side Anderlecht for an initial of €1 million with an option to buy at €2.5 million. He suffered a broken shoulder due to which he made his debut in December 2015. He showed great ability but was dropped from the squad after the manager expressed the language barrier between him and Trezeguet regarding tactics and meetings. But the option to buy permanently was exercised by the club despite the making just 7 appearances, making him the 2nd most expensive sale of Al Ahly.

In 2016/17, he was sent on loan to Royal Excel Mouscron to gain some first team appearances. In his first seven appearances, he scored 2 and assisted 3. Though Mouscron was involved in a relegation battle, he was praised for his performances by the Anderlecht manager. He did manage 7 goals in 28 appearances.

In 2017/18, he joined Kasimpasa on a 1 year loan deal with an option to buy. He scored 16 goals in 33 appearances. He eventually joined on a permanent for a €2 million fee.

Fantasy Football Potential

He has always impressed as a speedy winger who likes to play direct, run at defenders. So, he can really be an asset. But, the thing which might backfire against him is the amount of signings Aston Villa has made. They have made 10 signings and spend over £100 million in the transfer window, so, it remains to be seen whether he gets minutes in the team or not.

Priced at £5.5m, Trezeguet could be a baragin, but in competition with Jota and El Ghazi his game time could be limited. Villa start with an opening fixture against Spurs, so it could be worth keeping an eye on him as fixtures do improve from gameweek 2 onwards.
