Fantasy Premier League is back and with gameweek 1 fast approaching, many fantasy football managers are assembling their FPL teams. With over 3.5 million FPL managers, many will be wondering who they should trust with the captain’s armband on the first gameweek. Well, our captaincy analysis and tips article will try to help you with this decision.
Without further ado, here is our captaincy analysis, with 3 picks, a differential and a gamble:
1. Sergio Aguero (SUN)
Come on, this shouldn’t be too surprising! Everyone who’s played FPL before knows how essential he is due to his insane goals to game ratio in the Premier League. GW1 is always the hardest week because so many get their captain choice wrong, but you can basically guarantee that Aguero is a safe captaincy choice due to how popular he will be. Definitely one to consider!
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (BOU)
Unless you’ve lived in a cave for the last few months, you’ll know that Ibrahimovic is now the main striker choice for Man United. As we all know, Zlatan is a fantastic striker, and he should definitely be one who you should consider to captain. He was top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, scoring more than 30 goals in one season, which is an unbelievable record! You would be a fool not to have him in your team next season, especially when he is being managed by one of the greatest managers in football, Jose Mourinho.
3. Riyad Mahrez (HUL)
Seems to me that people are forgetting Leicester players. Vardy hasn’t featured in many FPL drafts, and I honestly haven’t noticed Mahrez in any FPL drafts. He scored a fantastic goal in pre-season, and people seem to have forgotten that he was the best player in the league last year, and one of the best in world football! Definitely one to consider captaining!
Differential – Andre Gray (SWA)
He’s been sitting in my FPL draft since day one, and he’s still owned unbelievably by under 10% of FPL managers. He’s been scoring for fun in pre-season, his record in the Championship last season was fantastic, as he was one of the best forwards in the league, and it looks like he shouldn’t have any difficulty taking last season’s form into this season. If you’re feeling risky, I’d go for him!
Gamble – Roberto Firmino (ARS)
He’s a gamble for multiple reasons. One is that Liverpool have signed two midfielders in Firmino’s position, which could make him a rotation risk and he might not play the full 90 minutes against Arsenal. Second reason is that
Arsenal are alŵays a difficult team to play, whether you’re home or away, so it will be difficult for Firmino to do well against Arsenal. But, as they say, he who dares!
