Captaincy Analysis – Gameweek 19 FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

The festive football continues this weekend! With gameweek 19 fast approaching, the big question is “who to captain?”. Before we look at this week’s selections, here is how last week’s captaincy analysis did:

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 15 points
2. Alexis Sanchez – 3 points
3. Sadio Mane – 2 points
Differential – Jay Rodriguez – 2 points
Gamble – Cesar Azpilicueta – 6 points

Now onto this week’s picks:

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (MID)

The big Swede ran the show on Boxing Day with a goal and 2 assists which took his tally for 2016 to a huge 49, behind only Lionel Messi in Europe. Zlatan has adapted well to English football and after some early struggles, Man United look to be hitting the form you would expect of them. On Saturday, Middlesbrough visit Manchester and despite a solid defence would do well to suppress the vast firepower of United. Zlatan is perhaps the safest choice for your armband.

2. Diego Costa (STK)

Costa bought himself Christmas off by reaching 5 yellow cards and that means the form man will be fresh and ready to go when Stoke visit the Bridge. Chelsea recorded their 12th straight victory last time out, a club record, and they have been a joy to watch. Given Diego Costa leads the scoring charts with 13 goals, giving the Spaniard the armband usually pays dividends. Stoke are by no means a poor outlet but given the incredible run Chelsea are on, the Potters should be no match for Conte’s men.

3. Alexis Sanchez (CRY)

Arsenal haven’t been impressive of late but on Boxing Day managed to grind out a 1-0 win over a dogged West Brom side. For once, Sanchez wasn’t involved in the goal but given his recent form, I would bet on the Chilean adding to his 12 league efforts. Palace are now managed by “Big Sam” which means defensive solidity and players who will really put a shift in. However, the task on his hands is huge so I still expect an Arsenal win at the weekend.

Differential – Jermaine Defoe (BUR)

To use the cliché, this game is ‘a real six pointer’ with 2 struggling sides going up against each other. At this stage of the season, both sides really need the points and if there’s a striker for this sort of game then it is Jermaine Defoe. Burnley are going well and will be confident off the back of victory over fellow strugglers Middlesbrough. It will be a tough away game for Moyes and his men but they should be up for it. Low ownership could mitigate the risk.

Gamble – Gylfi Sigurdsson (BOU)

Swansea are in real trouble; they simply can’t stop conceding and after shipping 4 to fellow strugglers West Ham sacked manager Bob Bradley. However, going forward Swansea aren’t bad. Sigurdsson has had a good season with 5 goals and 5 assists and on Saturday, the Swans host Bournemouth who are also in a bad patch. A huge risk given their form but Sigurdsson himself could prove useful.

Thanks for reading and good luck!
