Captaincy Analysis – Gameweek 2 FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Welcome again to our FPL Captaincy Analysis article for gameweek 2. Last week saw the curtain rise on the Premier League season and it was full of surprises. Leicester City lost to apparent relegation fodder Hull City, star studded Manchester City were fortunate to beat Sunderland and Arsenal lost at home to Liverpool in a thriller.

Before we look at this weeks picks, here’s how the picks from last weeks Captaincy Analysis performed:

1. Sergio Aguero – 9 points
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 9 points
3. Riyad Mahrez – 8 points
Differential – Andre Gray – 2 points
Gamble – Roberto Firmino – 2 points

Now without further ado let’s examine some of the options for your captaincy this week:

1. Sergio Aguero (STK)

The Argentine opened his account for the season with a well struck penalty at the Etihad on Saturday so should be in a confident mood when his side travel to Stoke this week. The potters laboured to a point against newly promoted Middlesbrough in gameweek 1 so are unlikely to be full of self belief. City have quality all over the park so Aguero will almost certainly receive great support and few would be surprised if last seasons top scorer was amongst the goals again this week. Will have a high captaincy percentage but with good reason. An obvious choice this week

2. Ross Barkley (WBA)

The Everton midfielder got off the mark only 5 minutes into the season with an inswinging free kick from 30 yards which nobody manager to get a touch on before it evaded the dive of Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal, Barkley certainly didn’t mean it but those managers who put him in the final of there many drafts definitely didn’t care. Koemans toffees travel down to the West Midlands to face West Brom who began the campaign with a 0-1 win over Crystal Palace. In truth the Everton front line which has been bolstered by the arrival of Yannick Bolasie will cause the baggies many more problems so a high scoring game is likely and Barkley is probably the pick of the bunch. Could prove something of a differential captain with most players opting for a big name striker.

3. Alvaro Negrado (SUN)

The ‘Boro striker was a goal scorer on his debut with the Spaniard finishing with his Shoulder. Gameweek 2 sees a North East derby as Middlesborough travel to Wearside. Negrado is a quality player and will lead the line again on Saturday and given the debut goal will give the former Manchester City man confidence he can be relied upon to deliver the goods consistently for your fantasy football team. A great option of you’re looking to avoid the big names.

Differential – Alexis Sanchez (LEI)

The Chilean was quiet during his sides defeat to Liverpool but all FPL managers know the quality and worth of the Arsenal winger. He very rarely goes 2 games without some kind of return and his team travel to last seasons champions; Leicester in search of their first points of the gunners campaign. Given the fanfare around new signings like Pogba & Ibrahimovic it has been easy for Sanchez to slip under the radar but the mercurial forward will return a big score sooner or later and if you’re one of the small section of FPL managers who take a risk on the Chilean then the rewards could be huge.

Gamble – Diego Costa (WAT)

The Chelsea forward was (as usual) at the heart of the action as he netted a late winner to spark wild scenes at Stamford bridge. He was very lively and should be much fresher than rival strikers who spent the summer on international duty. Chelsea make the relatively short trip across London to face Watford who will struggle this season, given the excellent performance from Hazard & a fine cameo from new signing Batayushi Costa should have no issues regarding his support and may go slightly under the radar and may come with some risk but in my eyes Costa is more than viable for your captaincy.

Thanks for reading and good luck with gameweek 2!
