Captaincy Analysis – Gameweek 3 FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Welcome to another FPL Captaincy Analysis for the upcoming gameweek 3. The second round of fixtures saw the first of 10 Friday night football fixtures, something which caught out many FPL managers. However when the action got underway, the night belonged to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who netted twice, much to the jubilation of the countless mangers who had given him the armband! The signs looked ominous for those like myself who had opted to captain Zlatans cross town rival, Sergio Aguero, but cometh the hour, cometh the man. Aguero only needed 25 minutes to match the exploits of Ibrahimovic!

Aside from the battle of the Manchester strikers, Spurs ground out a home win, Arsenal & Leicester shared a bore draw with neither side really showing champions quality. Chelsea came from behind to in at Watford, but those who gambled on Costa & Hazard didn’t get much reward. Liverpool showed us signs of what is to come by following there win at the Emirates with a laughable display against a resolute Burnley side. Everton overcame West Brom in a game which surely had no effect on many fantasy managers. Sunderland folded at home to Boro and an ‘already relegated’ Hull (in most pundits view) rose to 3rd in the table! The final match of the week saw the first game at the ‘London Stadium’, as West Ham edged out Bournemouth with an Antonio goal, popular with FPL mangers that one (although not mentioned in our Captaincy Analysis)!

With that being said, here’s how our Captaincy Analysis choices did:

1. Sergio Aguero – 13 points
2. Ross Barkley – 5 points
3. Alvaro Negrado – 10 points
Differential – Alexis Sanchez – 3 points
Gamble – Diego Costa – 5 points

Enough rambling about actual football, we know you only care about fantasy premier league, so let’s examine our Captaincy Analysis:

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (HUL)

Many doubted the credentials of Zlatan after his move from PSG to Manchester United, they said he was too old, wouldn’t be able to handle the quality of the league and was looking for a last pay day, but thus far the 34 year old has looked utterly brilliant with 3 goals in his opening 2 games. Like myself, I’m sure many of you reading this are faced with a dilemma of choosing between Ibrahimovic and a certain other player we’ll talk about later. Both have ownership above 50% so it’s almost certain you’ll own Zlatan or Sergio. Considering his massive 52.9% ownership, the big Swede he is an obvious contender for the armband. Man United travel to Hull, who despite a 100% start are expected to struggle badly this season and a United side who seem to be unstoppable right now, may well blow the East Yorkshire outfit away. Zlatan may be the anti thesis of a differential captain, however at this stage in the season you should just be focusing on gaining the biggest possible overall score and given the form of this well traveled striker, it is a safe bet to assume Zlatan will deliver a decent points haul this weekend.

2. Diego Costa (BUR)

The Chelsea frontman has had a lively start to the season and probably deserves more than the single goal he has managed. The arrival of strike partner Batshuayi should help the Blues midfield link with the Spaniard. Chelsea are always strong at Stamford Bridge and despite evidence that Burnley are strong at the back, you can still expect Costa & Co to deliver goals and 3 points at the weekend. If you’re after a player with lower ownership for your armband then Diego Costa may just fit the bill perfectly.

3. Sergio Aguero (WHU)

Just like his United rival Aguero has netted 3 times so far in the league this season and should’ve really had 5 in the champions league against Steua Bucharest, but bad luck from 12 yards meant he had to settle for a hat-trick. West Ham are the visitors to the Etihad this time round and have started the season in unspectacular fashion, but look to possess enough quality to ask some questions of Pep Gaurdiola’s side. On the flip side however, the City frontline was irresistible on Saturday with both Aguero and Nolito scoring twice, so in front of their own fans, the city forwards should steamroll the hammers defence! With ownership above 50% he’s no differential, but as mentioned earlier that isn’t so important at this early stage.

Differential – Nathan Redmond (SUN)

Last season Redmond was a player with real quality who was stifled by negative tactics employed by Alex Neil, but following the canaries relegation new Southampton boss Claude Puel has splashed a figure north of £10 million on the England youth player and deployed him as a striker. Redmond scored in his last game at St Mary’s which was on the opening day of the campaign, so he will be looking to do the same again when a shambolic Sunderland side make the long trip. Not too many own Redmond and even fewer will be giving him the armband, so if a differential is what you’re after then you should definitely consider Redmond.

Gamble – Cristian Benteke (BOU)

Last week Benteke ended his Liverpool nightmare and made the switch to Crystal Palace, although in a bizarre turn of events Benteke decided on his Twitter that Burnley was his new side! After that confusion Benteke will almost certainly go straight into the side that faces Bournemouth this weekend due to the fact Alan Pardew has literally n0 forward of premier league quality. Given the fact that both Palace and the Cherries are currently without a point, it could be a debut to remember for the massive Belgian and in the process it could really help your fantasy football team.

That concludes our captaincy analysis and all that’s left to say is thanks for reading and good luck with gameweek 3!
