FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 16 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

When the week kicks off with a star player you don’t own scoring 15pts you start to fear the worst. Thankfully due to Eden Hazard’s relatively low ownership the damage for overall rank wasn’t too substantial. And thankfully our team delivered a fairly respectable 50pts to ensure we saw greens again! We only moved up about 45k places to 504k but as I’ve always said, greens are greens and the march up the rankings continues.

FPL Updates XI

Nick Pope started in goal and unfortunately Burnley conceded for the 3rd game straight. In front of him we had Sead Kolasinac and Charlie Daniels combine for 3pts whilst Harry Maguire picked up his 2nd highest score of the season with 8pts.

Our midfield was a having a fairly poor week until David Silva’s late winner against West Ham in the final game of GW15. His goal and bonus meant that he doubled what Mo Salah, Richarlison and Wilf Zaha had already put up for us.

Our highest score of the week came from Roberto Firmino. 13pts scored thanks to an impressive brace against Brighton, it was long overdue. With just one goal in the last 11 GW’s we kept the faith due to his fixture run and favourable price and he repaid us well. Unfortunately captain Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy both blanked against Watford and Burnley.

So with 30 of our 50pts coming from just three players we need hope for a little more consistency going forward. With two free transfers available this week we have made just the one as our teams’ fixtures look fairly good this week.

Alexander-Arnold (OUT) – Kiko Femenia (IN)

With the team looking fairly settled with nice fixtures we are using just one of our free transfers this week. It is more of a maintenance transfer than a big name but in comes Watford wing back Kiko Femenia. He comes in for Trent Alexander Arnold who has only started five games this season. With Watford’s appealing fixtures throughout the rest of December I’m sure his price will only increase as he looks nailed on for the right wing back spot.

Nick Pope gets the nod again. With no assurances over Rob Elliot’s return to the Newcastle line up the decision is straightforward. Although with that said Watford have scored at least two goals in every away game this season. So this will be far from a comfortable game for Pope.

At the back we have a trio of defenders with away games but all against teams to have scored 15 goals or less this season. I’d like to think there is at least one clean sheet to be had there. All three of our defenders are ranked inside the top 15 FPL scoring defenders so hopefully they can continue that form.

Our midfield is led by this season’s FPL golden boy Mo Salah. Surprisingly with Liverpool scoring five last week the Egyptian only picked up a solitary assist. He gets his first taste of a Merseyside derby and I’m certainly not going to bet against him scoring in this. Alongside him is Richarlison against Burnley. The Brazilian youngster has now blanked in two consecutive games for the first time since GW’s 4 and 5. He will be looking to put an end to that against our own keeper Pope. Wilf Zaha is up next. After an impressive points return after he came back from injury he has now blanked in the last three. A home game against Bournemouth would ordinarily be a positive fixture but the South coast team have the 6th best defensive record in the league. Last up is David Silva who thankfully has been passed fit today. We didn’t really want to have to waste a transfer here so by keeping him it allows us to take the two free transfers over to GW17 midweek.

Up top we start with Harry Kane. He hasn’t been his usual emphatic self of late but a home game against the second worst defence in the league should be just the tonic. 10 goals so far with two in his last three shows that he’s hardly struggling but admittedly his price tag does come into question when he’s not firing on all cylinders. He is joined by last week’s star Roberto Firmino. Coming off of the back of a brace against Brighton and a great performance in a 7-0 win midweek he will be buzzing for this. He may have failed to score in either derby last season but this Liverpool team is taking teams apart so I’m more than happy with this attacking double up. Last up is Jamie Vardy. He has been a fairly frustrating player to own this season. With 69pts so far he ranks 6th in FPL points amongst all forwards but he hasn’t scored double figures in a game since Arsenal in GW1 and only has two goals in his last nine GW’s. We have kept him due to his upcoming run of games but if he blanks again then we could be rethinking that. He is facing a Newcastle team that has now conceded 12 in their last four so we are hopeful for Vardy this week.

There we have it. We currently sit in our highest overall position of the season and need to continue this push for the top 100k. Our match ups are good but with so many big names starting to look appealing we need to also hope to dodge some bullets. Captain choices are going to be crucial this month with fixtures coming thick and fast so with that said please get involved with our weekly captain poll below. The winner as of 11am tomorrow gets the nod.

Thanks again for reading and let’s keep the greens rolling! Good luck all!
