FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 17 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Ok, this run of greens is getting a little disconcerting. Given the amount of rotation and big name blanks the consistency in our team has been pleasing. And they say there aren’t any good young British managers about! After a really poor first month of the season we have now seen green arrows in 9 of the last 11 GW’s and in the last 5 straight. From GW11 to GW16 we have risen from 1.03m to 349k and are well on the way to achieving the aim of a top 100k finish.

With a fairly low weekly average of 43 our 62pts was good enough for a jump of over 150k places and entry into the FPL Cup! More on that later but for now let’s have a look at our GW16 line up.

Nick Pope was between the sticks and he picked up his first clean sheet in 4 and his first in FPL Updates XI colours. Impressively it was against a Watford team that had scored at least 2 in every away game this season.

With only 4 of the 20 Premier League teams keeping a clean sheet it’s no surprise that our back 3 combined for paltry 4pts. Even less surprising when the 4 teams were Burnley, West Ham, Swansea and Huddersfield.

Our midfield fared far better as Mo Salah and David Silva continued their fine form with the both of them scoring goals in their respective derby matches. Mo Salah’s 11pts could have been even better if Klopp hadn’t subbed him just after 60 minutes. After 1 goal in his first 14 Silva has now scored in back to back games, and both have been crucial goals in 2-1 victories. His recent ability to find a finish deep in the heart of the opposition’s box certainly increases his appeal. An appeal that had previously been more or less solely based on for his penchant for string pulling. We got an assist from Wilf Zaha, which would have been 2 if Benteke hadn’t been a selfish tit whilst Richarlison blanked. Not helped by Zeegelaar’s red.

Up top you voted Harry Kane as our captain and he duly delivered! Cheers guys. Bizarrely going into GW16 Kane saw a negative net transfer total of -34k. It was Stoke! His brace and 24pts were huge for us. Unfortunately Jamie Vardy blanked in a game that Leicester scored 3, which was frustrating. Even more annoying that it should have been his assist for an Okazaki goal. Instead Ayoze Perez decided to be a little charitable and poked it home instead. Roberto Firmino was benched on Sunday so he returned us a solitary point.

Not the first time this season that it’s been Kane, Salah and Silva delivering for us and long may it continue. There are rumours of a Kane rest this GW against Brighton which will be a real pain but it’s not going to force me into a switch. We have used the free transfer this week though and once again it’s on our defence.

Daniels (OUT) – Jones (IN)

I’m aware Phil Jones is lacking match fitness and may not start straight away but Manchester United’s upcoming run is so good, Bournemouth’s is horrible and we couldn’t afford any increase in his price.

Nick Pope starts again as per usual and it’s home to Stoke. Although Stoke have been absolute toilet this year they have scored in their last 7 straight away from home. In fact the only away game they didn’t score in was the opening day of the season away at Everton. So this is by no means a nailed on cleanie for Pope.

At the back we will gamble with a Phil Jones start. I don’t expect it but with Bailly out there’s a small chance. Sead Kolasinac away at West Ham and Harry Maguire away at Southampton make up the trio.

Our midfield starts with Mo Salah, obviously, and I will be refreshing Twitter frantically at 7pm Wednesday hoping that he starts. Klopp showed his ruthlessness in rotation on Sunday when he benched Firmino and Coutinho but the fact Salah came off after 60 mins suggests he will start at home to WBA. David Silva is away to Swansea looking to make it 3 consecutive games with a goal, whilst Wilf Zaha and Richarlison face off against each other at Selhurst Park. Following Marco Silva’s latest comments about keeping Richarlison sharp I’m slightly worried he gets the rest here.

Up front it’s the same 3 again. Roberto Firmino looks set for a start after being benched Sunday. Jamie Vardy has started every league game this season so I can’t see that changing against Southampton and that just leaves Harry Kane. Brighton have conceded 7 in their last 2 games so a rest for Kane here would tilt me big time. With Spurs being an 8pm Wednesday game we won’t know until really late in the GW. I will have everything crossed. Fingers, toes, eyes, pubes. Whatever helps get him a start here.

So there we have it. I like the team but obviously rotation is a fear. Especially as I’m not a huge fan of our bench.

As mentioned at the top of the article we have qualified for the FPL Cup. So that’s extra reason to hope for limited rotation. We are facing off against ‘Parim Sats’. Not a bad looking team, and currently ranked 120k overall. So certainly a threat. If by some off long shot you are the manager of that team and happen to read this then please give us a shout! Clutch much!!

As always the captain poll is running below so please give it a vote. You guys have been a big help so far so let’s keep the run going.

hanks again for reading and hopefully you all see greens come Wednesday night!
